Palworld PS5 Dedicated Server: How to Set One Up
A PS5 can't host the Palworld dedicated server, but it can join one. Compare a home PC with remote hosting, then set up community access.
You will need
- A PS5 with online play enabled
- A Windows or Linux PC if your group will self-host
- Router and firewall access for a home-hosted server
- The server name and password, if one is set
You can’t run a Palworld dedicated server on a PS5, but your PS5 can join one hosted on a Windows or Linux PC or by a remote server provider. The shortest route depends on whether someone in your group can leave a computer running and handle its network settings. This guide helps you choose, switch on the community listing PS5 needs, and test a real connection without promising that a server will appear instantly.
Choose where the server will run#
The PS5 is a client for Palworld’s dedicated servers, not a machine that runs the server program. Your world has to live on a separate PC you control or on a remote host. Either can give the group a shared world that does not depend on the PS5 owner keeping the game open.
| Route | What you provide | When the world is available | Network work |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-host on a PC | A supported Windows or Linux computer, power, and time to configure it | While that PC and server process stay on | You manage the firewall, router and server updates |
| Rent a remote server | A paid hosting plan, if the provider is accepting new servers | While the provider’s server is running | No inbound forwarding on your home router; the provider handles the machine |
Choose the PC route if someone already has a machine that can stay on and is comfortable setting up a server. It avoids a recurring hosting bill, but the machine, electricity, internet connection and upkeep are still real costs. Choose remote hosting if nobody wants a home PC to be the always-on machine or to manage router access. A rental is still a separate service; it does not remove the need to configure the Palworld community listing and verify that PS5 players can find it.
Use a PC if your group can keep it online#
Pocketpair distributes a separate Palworld Dedicated Server tool for Windows and Linux. It runs independently of the game client, so the person maintaining it does not have to keep Palworld open on their PS5 or PC. The program is free to download; a self-host still depends on your group’s computer, power, connection and configuration.
On Windows, the simplest option for many groups is the Palworld Dedicated Server tool in Steam’s Library under Tools. Linux users and people who prefer a command line can install it with SteamCMD; the official example uses this command:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2394010 validate +quitThe install is only the beginning. A home server must allow the game’s UDP port through the computer firewall and make it reachable through the router. Palworld’s official server requirements list UDP 8211 by default, though the port can be changed. Keep the server machine online whenever friends want access, apply game updates, and make a backup routine for the save. A PC that sleeps, loses its connection or closes the server process takes the world offline.
For the complete install, configuration file, Windows/Linux paths, port forwarding and first startup, follow the full Palworld server setup guide. This page focuses on what makes that server joinable from PS5: it must be announced as a community server, and PS5 must be allowed in its crossplay platforms.
Choose remote hosting when you do not want a home PC online#
A remote host runs the server on a machine outside your home network. That can spare a friend from leaving a computer on and configuring inbound router access. You still choose a plan, set the Palworld options, keep the name and password handy, and test from the PS5. Providers differ, so confirm that the plan supports Palworld community servers and PS5 crossplay before paying.
Availability matters as much as the setup steps. On September 24, 2026, Game Hosting’s Palworld capacity API returned open:false; its Palworld plans and availability page said servers were opening in waves. Treat the page as current plan and availability information, not an assurance that you can provision a server now. Recheck before making a group plan around a rental. If new-server capacity is closed, use a PC your group controls or wait until a provider confirms availability.
Do not assume that “rented” means “PS5-ready without configuration.” The setting names and world options still matter, and the server must register in the community list. Ask the provider how it exposes the Palworld startup option and crossplay setting; do not paste a Steam or Linux command into a hosting panel unless that panel specifically expects it. No provider-specific setup time is guaranteed here.
Publish the server as a community server#
PS5 players need the server to appear in Palworld’s in-game community list. A community server is still a dedicated server; the community setting registers it in the browser that console clients use. A private server reached only by entering an IP address is not the PS5 join route described in Pocketpair’s documentation.
If you launch the server from Steam, choose Open and start as a community server. If you start the executable directly, add -publiclobby to the launch command, as shown in Pocketpair’s community-server instructions:
PalServer.exe -publiclobby./PalServer.sh -publiclobbyUse the form that matches how you start the server, not both examples at once. For a rental, look for a community-server or public-listing option in the provider’s Palworld settings, or ask support which control sets that launch option. Restart the server after changing its startup configuration. If it still does not appear, check that the process actually restarted with community listing enabled before changing unrelated world settings.
Allow PS5 and give the group a server name#
Palworld’s configuration reference documents a default CrossplayPlatforms value that includes PS5, alongside Steam, Xbox and Mac. If you changed the platform list, restore or add PS5 before expecting a console player to join. Give the server a distinctive name and share the password if you set one; that makes the listing easier for friends to recognize and prevents a password surprise at the join screen.
In the dedicated-server configuration, these fields are part of the OptionSettings=(...) line:
ServerName="Island Crew",
ServerPassword="choose-a-password",
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac),Treat this as an illustration of the three relevant values, not a complete replacement for your settings line. Preserve the other options already in the file, and confirm the installed version’s template if its layout differs. Save the configuration and restart the server so it reads the updated values. If you leave ServerPassword empty, tell the group that no password is expected; if the host configured one, send it through a private channel.
For other platform combinations and what the server shares with each client, see the Palworld crossplay platform matrix. This check is about server-side platform access. It does not merge characters, stores or purchases across platforms.
Run one real PS5 join test#
Test from the PS5 account that will play, not just from the host PC. Pocketpair’s general instructions say to open the multiplayer server list, choose the Community server category and select the target. A PS5-specific guide describes the path as Join Multiplayer Game followed by Community Servers, but menu wording can shift between updates. Use the community-server browser if your labels differ.
Confirm the server is running
On the host or provider panel, check that the server process is online after the restart. Keep the configured server name and password in front of you.
Open the community list on PS5
From Palworld’s menu, enter the multiplayer/server browser and choose its community-server list. Search for the exact
ServerNamerather than relying on a broad list scan. A PS5-specific setup guide labels this path Join Multiplayer Game → Community Servers; the wording can vary with the client update.Join and record the result
Select the matching listing and enter its configured password. Note whether the server is absent, the password is rejected or a version message appears; each points to a different check below.
The US PlayStation Store listing currently says PS Plus is required for online play in Palworld. A server setting cannot replace that account requirement. Also keep the PS5 client and server on compatible current builds; Pocketpair’s patch notes can call out crossplay compatibility when a platform-specific update ships, so do not assume the version numbers must always be identical.
Fix the first failed join one check at a time#
Use the symptom to choose the next check. Avoid changing the password, platform list, router and server name all at once; then you will not know which change fixed the problem.
| What happens on PS5 | Check first | What the check tells you |
|---|---|---|
| The listing is missing | Confirm the server restarted with Steam’s community option or -publiclobby; search the exact name and refresh the community list |
PS5 needs the community listing, and list visibility is separate from a running process |
| The name appears but the password fails | Confirm whether ServerPassword is set and share that exact value privately |
An empty password and an outdated or mistyped password are different cases |
| The game reports a version or connection mismatch | Update the client and server, then read the current patch notice for crossplay notes | A mismatch warning is evidence to check compatibility; identical version numbers are not a universal rule |
| The host can join locally but a PS5 on the same Wi-Fi cannot | Test from a genuinely external network and review the router’s Hairpin NAT support | A local-only failure may be the router’s loopback behavior, not public reachability |
| No platform besides PS5 can join after a config edit | Restore the full settings template and check the OptionSettings commas before changing CrossplayPlatforms again |
Accidentally replacing or breaking the long settings line can reset other options |
If the server is absent from an external PS5 test, return to the community startup option and the host or provider’s network status. For PC-host details such as firewall rules and the default UDP port, use the full setup walkthrough. For a platform-by-platform explanation of what can connect, use the crossplay guide. Those checks keep the diagnosis focused without treating every failed join as a reason to wipe the world or rebuild the server.
