Palworld Host Left? How to Keep Your World and Play Again
If your Palworld host stopped playing, get the full world folder before you rebuild; learn what guests can recover and where to continue together.
You will need
- Know whether the world was hosted in co-op or on a dedicated server
- Permission to contact the original host or server owner
- Agreement about who will manage the next world
If a Palworld host left, your group can keep the existing world only if the host or server owner can still provide its save data or a backup. Joining as a co-op guest does not put the complete world on your PC. First find out which person and machine own the save; then ask for the full world folder and keep the original untouched. If no folder, server access, or backup exists, the group may need a new world. This guide separates those cases and explains what you can safely assume about characters.
Palworld host left? Find out whether the world still exists#
Start with the way the group played. In co-op, the world belongs to the player who opened it. The game saves that world on the host’s device; a guest joining with an invite code does not get a second, complete copy. Pocketpair describes a dedicated server as a separate server process, so its world is stored with that server rather than on whichever player logs in. The old host may have stopped playing while a dedicated server still exists.
| How the group played | Where to look | Who to ask first |
|---|---|---|
| Steam co-op on Windows | The original host’s Windows save folder | The person who opened the co-op world |
| PC Game Pass or Microsoft Store co-op | The original host’s Windows game-save container | The person who opened the world; don’t ask for a Steam-style folder |
| Xbox or PS5 co-op | Platform-managed save data on the host’s console | The console account that opened the world |
| Dedicated server | The server’s storage or the provider account | The server owner or someone with file access |
For Windows Steam co-op, the save is normally under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames\<SteamID64>\<WorldGUID>\. A dedicated server keeps its world under Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<WorldGUID>/ relative to its installation. Other stores and consoles use different save systems. Our save-location guide shows how to identify the right host folder.
Ask whether the old host can still open the world, whether it was co-op or dedicated, and which store or console they used. If the server is still running, the next step may be account or file access rather than a transfer. If the owner cancelled or deleted it, ask whether a backup remains; providers do not all keep data on the same terms.
Ask for the whole Palworld world folder#
Ask for the directory that contains the shared world, not just one player’s character file. For the Windows Steam co-op layout, that is the folder named with the world’s GUID beneath the host’s account directory. It normally contains Level.sav and a Players directory, along with other save data. Dedicated-server folders differ, and Game Pass or console saves do not look like a normal Steam folder.
You can send the old host this message:
Could you send me a ZIP of the complete Palworld world folder for [world name]? Please tell me whether it was Steam, Game Pass, Xbox, PS5, or a dedicated server. If it was Steam co-op, please exit Palworld normally first, then copy the whole folder that contains
Level.savandPlayers. Please keep your original copy and don’t delete or replace it yet. We want to verify the transfer before anyone changes the source.
The request gives the host a concrete job without asking them to hand over a password or alter their only save. If the folder has several worlds, include the folder name and the last session date so the group can identify the right one. Keep a separate copy of the ZIP before trying any conversion.
If the former host only has Game Pass or a console save, don’t tell them to rename a file into the Steam path. The storage and transfer steps are different; first identify the platform and confirm that a supported export route exists.
If the host stopped playing for good, choose recovery or a reset#
If the original folder or a server backup still exists, preserve it and decide where the group will run that copy. If the host’s device was wiped and no backup or server copy remains, a guest’s local character file is not a replacement for the shared world. You cannot reconstruct its bases, guild state, or world progress from the invite code. Confirm that no other group member has an archive before agreeing to start over.
A fresh world means the group begins again; there is no evidence-based number of hours that applies to every Palworld group. If everyone wants to catch up faster, agree on temporary world settings together and write down what changed. Avoid copying random rate multipliers from a different group’s save: they may not fit your version or what your friends consider fair. You can return to the default or agreed settings later.
If the former host rented a server, ask the account owner or provider about an export or retained backup before cancelling anything. Backup counts, retention, and access after cancellation vary by provider. A world archive is the useful item to ask for; billing credentials are not.
Move the world only after choosing its new host#
Decide who will keep the next copy and who can reach it before anyone imports files. A new co-op host and a dedicated server are different transfer routes. This guide does not provide an untested co-op-to-co-op recipe or a console export method.
If the group is deciding whether to keep one player hosting or run a separate server, compare the tradeoffs in our Palworld co-op versus dedicated server guide. The choice affects who must be online and who has access to the machine, but it does not change which person currently owns the save.
Choose the person or server that will own the next copy
Name one person responsible for the original archive and one person who can manage the destination. For a provider-hosted server, confirm that the destination account can accept the correct platform’s world data before preparing it.
Use a documented route for the source platform
For a Steam co-op save moving to a dedicated server, follow the tested Palworld co-op migration steps. The published test covers one Steam co-op world moved to a Linux dedicated server on Palworld 1.0.5; it is not proof for every platform or a handoff to another co-op host. For an existing dedicated server moving to another machine, use the separate migration checklist.
Keep the source until the destination passes your checks
The group should confirm that the intended world opens and the right people can join before replacing or deleting the old copy. Check character state as well as the map and bases. If anything looks wrong, stop and return to the untouched source instead of saving over it.
If you want a managed destination, Game Hosting offers a free support-led move of a Palworld co-op world or a world from another host. Support can handle the migration from a supplied archive; confirm the source platform and build before the move. This is one option for taking the transfer work off the former host, not a guarantee that any save or mod combination will import unchanged.
Know what happens to each player’s character#
The shared world and each character are related save data, but the transfer route matters. In the tested Steam co-op-to-Linux-dedicated conversion linked above, guest files already matched the dedicated server’s player IDs. The host’s co-op file used the special name 00000000000000000000000000000001.sav and needed the migration’s host fix. That result applies to the tested Palworld 1.0.5 world; it does not prove a new co-op host, another store, or a console-to-PC transfer will preserve every character.
| Situation | What this guide can say | Safe next move |
|---|---|---|
| Steam co-op moved to a Linux dedicated server using G02’s route | G02 reports guest files unchanged and a tested host-character fix | Follow that route and keep the source copy |
| Co-op moved to another co-op host | No general character-preserving handoff was tested here | Don’t promise the same characters; confirm a route for your exact platform first |
| Game Pass or console save | File layout and export route differ from Steam | Check the platform-specific route before committing the only save |
| Existing dedicated server moved to a new machine | G11 covers the world folder and cutover checks | Verify the destination before shutting down the source permanently |
Have each player check their character, inventory, guild, and base access on the destination before the original copy is retired. If one character is missing, avoid repeated imports or renames: stop the server and return to the preserved source while you identify the correct procedure.
Keep the next world under shared control#
The next world should not depend on one player’s device and memory. Decide who owns its account, who can access the files, and who can download a backup. A dedicated server runs separately from the game client, but it still needs someone to manage the server or billing account. Shared access should be planned before the original host leaves.
For a group that wants help with the move and a server panel rather than maintaining a home machine, Game Hosting is a managed Palworld option. The owner can invite teammates with selected server permissions without giving them billing access. Each plan has three backup slots, and the newest backup is copied off-site once a day. Those copies are a recovery layer, not a promise that every restore will work, so keep an independent archive of a world the group cares about.
Before you call the move done, have a player other than the account owner join, check the world and characters, and confirm the server can restart with the same save. Keep the old folder until those checks pass. The first useful step is still simple: find the person or account that owns the data, ask for the whole world, and protect that copy before making changes.
Quick answers
Can I keep playing a Palworld world if the host stops playing?
Yes, if the host shares the world folder or an administrator can give you access to the dedicated server that owns it. A co-op guest does not automatically receive the complete world save.
How do I change the host of a Palworld co-op world?
There is no general one-click co-op-to-co-op handoff documented here. Keep the original save and use a transfer route that matches your platforms; our tested Steam co-op-to-dedicated steps are linked below.
Do I lose my character if the Palworld host deletes the world?
The world and character are separate save data, and character continuity depends on the exact transfer route. Do not assume a guest can restore a character from their account without the host save.
