You will need

  • Satisfactory on PC through Steam or Epic for everyone who will join
  • A decision about whether the world must stay online when its host is away

Free Satisfactory server hosting can mean a co-op session, a dedicated server on your own hardware, a cloud free tier, or a short provider trial. This guide is for PC players on Steam and Epic; PlayStation and Xbox players cannot join a Satisfactory dedicated server. If your PC group wants someone else to handle server upkeep, we recommend Game Hosting’s Satisfactory service: its integrated panel controls server settings, the server is claimed for its owner, and the factory is saved before a stop, restart or update. The 24-hour trial lets you evaluate that managed workflow, but it is temporary, not free hosting forever. First choose whether your world needs to stay online while its host is away.

Compare free Satisfactory server hosting routes#

There is no single zero-cost route with the same availability and upkeep as a paid managed server. Co-op needs no separate server-hosting plan, while a dedicated server needs a computer, electricity, a network connection and someone willing to maintain it. A free cloud tier substitutes provider limits and setup work for a hardware bill; a free trial only delays the paid decision for a day.

Route Ongoing hosting invoice What your group supplies Best fit
Player-hosted co-op None A player’s gaming PC and the host starting the session Everyone is usually online together
Home dedicated server None to download the server app Compatible PC, power, internet, setup and updates Someone can keep a separate machine running
Cloud free tier May be $0 within current limits Compatible VM, account, network setup and maintenance A technically confident admin can verify the exact VM
Provider trial $0 during its stated trial Account setup and a decision before it ends You want to evaluate managed hosting briefly

Treat “free” as a bill category, not a promise of uptime, enough memory or zero work. If your group wants an always-reachable factory without assigning one friend to run a PC and handle updates, a managed server can be a better fit. Read our paid host comparison and monthly cost guide once you are ready to compare that ongoing cost.

Keep every player on a supported platform first#

Satisfactory’s dedicated-server audience is PC players using Steam or Epic. Coffee Stain’s support FAQ says PC and console play are separate, and console players cannot join dedicated servers. Game Hosting’s Satisfactory page also scopes its server to PC Steam and Epic players. Check everyone’s platform before comparing prices or following a server setup guide; a free PC server will not bridge a console group into the same dedicated session.

Steam and Epic PC players can play together, but the storefront distinction does not make consoles compatible with a dedicated server. If you only need a shared session among PC friends, our guide to playing Satisfactory co-op explains the player-hosted option. If a console player is essential to the group, use the game’s supported console multiplayer route instead of paying for or setting up a PC dedicated server.

Use co-op when the host is already playing#

Co-op is the simplest way to avoid a separate server plan. One player starts the world and invites the others, so the group does not install or maintain a dedicated-server process. For a group that already schedules sessions together, the existing gaming PC may be all the “server” you need.

The trade-off is the host’s schedule and machine. The world is available through that player’s session; friends cannot treat it like an independently running server while the host is away. The host also needs a stable enough connection for the people joining. This is not a bad deal if everyone plays at the same time and the host is happy to start the world. It stops fitting when friends want to log in at different hours or when the host does not want to leave their gaming setup responsible for the session.

Before choosing co-op, agree who owns the world and how the group will keep a copy of its save. If the host later wants to move the factory to a dedicated server, make and verify a separate copy before changing or deleting the original. Our dedicated-server guide covers setup, while the broader hosting route guide compares co-op, a home server, a VPS and managed hosting.

Run the free server app on a PC you control#

The dedicated-server software is available without buying a separate game-server hosting plan. The Satisfactory server reference documents Windows and Linux x86-64 support. It gives 8 GB of memory as a recommendation, with larger worlds or more than four players potentially needing more. Treat that as guidance, not a promise that a machine with 8 GB will perform well for every factory.

“The app is free” leaves the physical costs with you: a compatible machine, electricity, internet service, configuration, updates, backups and troubleshooting. A spare desktop that is already powered on may make the arithmetic reasonable. Buying a new computer to avoid a monthly hosting bill usually does not make the full cost disappear. A home connection can also be less convenient for friends than a server that someone else maintains.

This route is strongest when you have an x86-64 Windows or Linux machine and an admin who wants control over it. The reference does not list ARM support, so a Raspberry Pi or ARM cloud shape is not a supported shortcut. For setup steps and the current server workflow, follow our Satisfactory dedicated-server installation guide; this article does not claim to have deployed a server or measured home electricity use.

Check a free cloud VM against the game’s requirements#

Cloud providers sometimes list free compute, but a free account does not guarantee a compatible or available Satisfactory server. The current Oracle Always Free resource list lists an AMD shape with 1 GB of memory and Ampere A1 resources up to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB. The Satisfactory server reference recommends 8 GB and says ARM is not supported. On those published specifications, the AMD example is below the memory recommendation and the Ampere example has an architecture mismatch.

That comparison only applies to the shapes Oracle lists on that page; it does not prove every free VM is too small or that the AMD VM cannot start the server. Free-tier resources and eligibility can change, and you still need to check current limits, architecture, memory, disk, networking and account terms yourself. This guide has not launched a VM or tested gameplay on one. Do not move your only factory save to an unverified instance just because its monthly price says zero.

If you want to investigate a cloud option, compare its exact machine type to the server reference before creating the instance, then use a copy of your world while learning the setup. Our guide to choosing between a home PC, VPS and rented server covers the administration trade-offs; a free tier still leaves those responsibilities with you.

Treat a free hosting trial as a deadline#

Game Hosting currently offers a 24-hour Satisfactory trial without a payment card, limited to one trial per person. The trial terms say Satisfactory is for PC Steam and Epic players. When the 24 hours end, the server stops, so friends cannot keep joining it as though the trial were an indefinite free plan. The world and settings remain for 7 days, after which they are permanently deleted if you do not continue. Trial slots can also pause when capacity is full.

That makes the trial useful for evaluating the managed workflow on your own schedule, not for keeping a free factory online permanently. Before starting, tell the group when the server may stop and decide who will continue it if the world is worth keeping. If you do not continue, download or otherwise preserve any world you need before the stated retention window ends; do not wait until after deletion to look for a copy.

For a group that wants to avoid opening ports, maintaining a home machine or administering a VM, we recommend Game Hosting’s Satisfactory service as the managed route. It is a paid hosting option after the trial, and it is only relevant to PC players on Steam or Epic. Compare the current plan details with the guide to choosing a Satisfactory host before deciding. If you are still deciding whether a server is needed at all, stay with co-op until the host’s schedule becomes the problem.

Make the decision before moving your factory#

Use this short checklist to choose without confusing a free download with free administration:

  1. Confirm every player is on PC Steam or Epic if you plan to use a dedicated server.
  2. Choose co-op if everyone can play when the host is online and no separate always-on world is needed.
  3. Choose a home server only if someone has compatible x86-64 hardware, internet and time to maintain it.
  4. Treat a cloud free tier as a VM you must verify against current architecture and memory requirements, not as a ready-made game server.
  5. Use a provider trial only if a 24-hour evaluation is enough and you have a plan for the world before the retention period expires.

The no-invoice choice is usually co-op for a group that plays together or a machine the group already owns and can maintain. If neither fits, the real comparison is whether the group prefers a recurring hosting bill or one person’s time and hardware. For the paid side, start with the Satisfactory hosting options after confirming the PC platform boundary, then compare the monthly cost and features before you move the world.

Quick answers

Is Satisfactory server hosting free?

You can play through a friend’s co-op session or run the dedicated-server software on hardware you provide without a hosting-plan invoice. The PC, power, internet and administration still have costs; a provider trial is temporary.

Can I host a Satisfactory server on Oracle Cloud for free?

Oracle lists both AMD and Ampere free-tier shapes, but its published AMD option has 1 GB of memory and Ampere is ARM. The Satisfactory server reference recommends 8 GB and says ARM is unsupported, so check the exact architecture and resources before choosing a VM; this guide does not claim a deployment test.

Is Game Hosting’s Satisfactory trial free forever?

No. The current trial is for 24 hours without a payment card, one per person; the server stops when it ends and the world and settings are retained for 7 days.
