Cancel 7 Days to Die Server Hosting: Save Your World First
Cancel 7 Days to Die server hosting safely: download your world and server files, check the archive, and confirm when the provider deletes it.
You will need
- Access to the server account and its backup or file-download controls
- Enough local storage for a server export
- The game build and mod versions, if the world is modded
If you plan to cancel 7 Days to Die server hosting, download a copy of the world and any files you want to keep before the provider’s deletion date. Cancellation often stops the next renewal while the server keeps running for time you already paid for; that does not mean the provider will keep the files afterward. This guide helps you make and inspect an export. Opening an archive is not the same as proving a restore works.
What happens to a 7 Days to Die server after you cancel?#
Cancellation and deletion are often separate events. A provider may stop billing at the next renewal, leave the server online through the paid period, then remove the server and its files. Other providers may suspend it immediately or describe a different backup-retention period. Read the current terms for your exact account and plan before choosing a date.
Write down four dates or conditions before you act: when cancellation takes effect, when the server stops, when the provider removes its files, and whether paid time is refunded or prorated. Look in the billing area and the terms; a “cancelled” label can mean only that the next renewal is stopped. Save the confirmation email, too. If the provider gives an end date, put it on the group calendar so the admin has time to finish the export.
A missed payment is not always treated like voluntary cancellation. Some providers give a separate payment-recovery window; others do not. Do not assume a failed card buys extra time to download the world. If payment already failed, check the account message and contact support before attempting a restore or waiting for the next billing cycle.
For example, Game Hosting’s published terms say a voluntary cancellation stops the next renewal, the server runs through the paid period, and the server, files and backups are permanently deleted at the end. The terms say paid time is not refunded or prorated except under the refund policy. They also say failed-payment suspensions follow a separate seven-day recovery process. That is one provider’s written policy, not a rule for every 7 Days to Die host.
What should you download before cancelling a 7 Days to Die server?#
Start with the provider’s full backup or export controls while the server is still available. A server backup is usually more useful than a folder copied from your local game, but its contents and download method depend on the host. If the panel offers both a complete backup and a file manager, use the backup first, then collect any separate files the provider says are not included.
Use this checklist to decide what your group needs to keep:
- The current world save and any generated terrain files required by that world.
- Player or administrator data, if the provider’s export contains it and your next setup needs it.
- Current server configuration and access settings, including any custom SandboxCode and the admin or allowlist details you need to recreate.
- The game build, world name, seed or map type, and the date of the last successful save.
- A list of installed mods with each mod’s author, version and supported game build. Save original mod files only when you have permission and the creator’s distribution instructions allow it.
Do not treat the standard PC client save folder as a universal dedicated-server path. The Fun Pimps’ save-file guide documents local client folders such as %APPDATA%\7DaysToDie on Windows. A hosted server can store data elsewhere or use its own export layout. Follow the host’s current instructions, and ask support which world and settings files its downloadable backup includes if that is unclear.
For the current V3 settings model, keep the actual configuration or a copy of its SandboxCode. Since V3.0, many older gameplay properties moved out of individual serverconfig.xml entries and into that code. Our V3 server-settings reference explains the current distinction; an old tutorial’s list of XML keys may not describe your server.
How do you make the last export safer?#
Give players a final-session time before the deletion date. Ask everyone to stop building or moving important items, then use the host’s normal stop control if you need a quiet final save. Wait until the panel shows the server stopped before creating a manual backup if your provider recommends that order. A graceful stop is a sensible precaution, but it does not prove the provider’s backup job completed.
Check the latest completed backup
Open the panel’s Backups area and identify a backup marked complete or ready. If the latest job is still running or failed, do not treat it as your export; ask the provider what to do or retry while the server is still available.
Create a fresh copy if the panel allows it
Make a named backup after the group’s final save. Confirm that the new entry reaches a completed state before requesting its download. Do not delete the only existing copy to make room unless you already have an independent export.
Download the copy to a device you control
Use the backup’s download control and save it outside the host account. Wait for the browser to finish; a generated link or a button that changed state is not the downloaded file.
Keep a second copy and note what it is
Store another copy on a different drive or trusted storage location. Record the date, server build, world name and any mod versions beside it so you can identify the right archive later.
If your host cannot make a new backup, or the world matters enough that a failed archive would be costly, contact support before the deadline. Ask a specific question: “Which files are in this completed backup, and how can I download them before the end date?” Keep the answer with the archive. Do not assume that a plan’s backup-slot count guarantees every backup succeeds or restores; the host’s terms may limit both.
How can you check the downloaded archive?#
First confirm the browser download finished and that the file has a nonzero size. Open the archive with your normal archive utility or list its contents without extracting over another copy. If it opens, extract it into a new folder and check that its contents look like a server backup rather than an empty wrapper or an error page downloaded with the wrong extension.
Compare the folder names and files with the provider’s description and the items your group chose to preserve. Look for the expected world data, generated-world files when applicable, settings and mod-related files. Exact names differ between hosts, so use the provider’s export notes instead of expecting every archive to contain one fixed path. If anything is missing, unreadable or unexpectedly small, download again or contact support while the account is still active.
Keep the downloaded archive untouched as your original. You can make a working copy for inspection, but extracting files only proves that the archive can be read. It does not prove the game will accept the save, the server will start, player data will match, or a modded world will load correctly. Our host-selection checklist recommends asking about export access and taking a copy before cancelling an old provider.
Which settings and mods matter if you return later?#
Record the exact game version that last ran the world and check the server and every player’s client before you restart it. The Fun Pimps published V3.3.0 Stable on October 5, 2026; that dated release note is a snapshot, not a promise that every server or mod uses the same build today. Ask the new host which branch and build it will run, and compare that with your group’s clients before making the world active.
Mods add another compatibility step. The official mod-use guidance says third-party mods can be unstable, should match the game version, and are supported by their creators rather than The Fun Pimps. Check each author’s current release notes and requirements before putting a saved world on a newer build. Do not remove an overhaul and assume its world will behave as vanilla; preserve the mod list and keep an untouched copy of the export.
If the group may return with console players, verify the modern crossplay rules before you choose a server. The official cross-platform server requirements include an eight-player maximum, ServerAllowCrossplay=True, EACEnabled=True and IgnoreEOSSanctions=False, along with limits on several gameplay settings. That does not establish that an existing PC save or modded world will move cleanly to consoles. The modern PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version is separate from the 2016 Xbox One/PS4 release; do not plan a return around compatibility between those editions.
When will the host delete your files and backups?#
Use the provider’s own paid-cancellation terms, and compare them with what the account panel says before you submit the request. Do not transfer a retention period from one host to another. For a useful example, Game Hosting’s public Terms of Service (updated October 5, 2026) say voluntary cancellation runs until the paid-period end, then the server, files and backups are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. They say the company emails at cancellation and again three days before that end date.
There is a material mismatch to be aware of: the cancellation confirmation in the Game Hosting dashboard and its post-deletion email separately describe the newest backup as kept off-site for 14 more days and say support can restore it on request. That wording conflicts with the public terms’ statement that the files cannot be recovered; the copy is not the same as an export you control, and the backup-copy process can fail. Until the policy text is aligned, do not rely on that copy or treat it as guaranteed retention. Download your own backup before the paid end date and ask support for written clarification if you need to understand the discrepancy.
When you check another provider, look for the precise paid-cancellation date, whether the server stops immediately, how long downloadable backups remain, what the download includes, and whether a refund or prorated amount is available. “Automatic backups” alone does not answer what happens when a subscription ends. The server-cost guide can help compare billing terms; the current contract and billing screen should settle the exact deadline for your account.
How should you plan a return or a host switch?#
Keep one copy you do not edit, and do not cancel the old service until the new host has confirmed its supported game build, world import method, required files, mods and any extra fee. If the world needs to be playable on a particular date, ask for a safe test on a copy before you move the group. Test the game and player data on a disposable copy first; if you cannot get a test environment, keep that limitation clear and do not treat the archive check as a successful migration.
If you are moving to another provider, the decision is different from ending the world for good. Our 7 Days to Die hosting comparison helps you compare regions, memory, version controls and export terms. If you are stopping for a while, keep the archive in two places and set a reminder before any storage account expires. In either case, your local copy is the one part of the plan you control.
Questions about cancelling 7 Days to Die server hosting#
Can I keep my world if I cancel?
You can keep a downloaded copy if you export it before your host removes the files. Check the archive and keep it in more than one place; a download alone does not prove it will restore.
Does cancelling stop the server immediately?
Not necessarily. Game Hosting’s published terms keep a voluntarily cancelled server running until the paid period ends, while other providers can use different rules. Check the date in your own billing panel and read its cancellation terms.
What happens if I cancel after an annual payment?
Do not assume the unused months will be refunded. Game Hosting’s terms say paid time is not refunded or prorated except under its refund policy; check the exact contract and refund rules for your plan before cancelling.
Keep the world copy before you leave#
Before you cancel, finish the download, inspect the archive and save a second copy somewhere outside the host account. Confirm the paid-period end and deletion rule in writing, and ask about any unclear or conflicting statement while support can still see the account. If you plan to return on another server, test a working copy against that host’s current version and mod requirements before you move the group. An export you control gives you a better starting point, but only a real test can show whether the world restores as expected.
Quick answers
What happens to my 7 Days to Die server after I stop paying?
It depends on the provider and why the service ends. Read the paid-cancellation terms for the date the server stops and when files and backups are deleted.
Can I keep my world if I cancel my server?
Yes, if you download a copy before the provider removes it. A readable archive is useful evidence that files arrived, but it does not prove the world will restore or run.
Does canceling stop a server right away?
Not always. Some plans run through the paid period after cancellation; check the exact end date in the account panel and the provider’s terms.
