Arma Reforger Clan Server: Plan Practice and Scrims
Decide when an Arma Reforger clan needs a private server, then plan practice, scrims, member access, crossplay and safe match-day changes.
You will need
- A clan roster and an agreed match format
- A server lead who can coordinate settings and access
An Arma Reforger clan server is useful when your roster needs private practice, consistent match settings or scrims that should not be interrupted by public players. It is extra work if your clan only joins public matches once in a while. Decide first whether your team needs control over the session; then choose the scenario, access method and match-day routine that fit your roster.
If you are still comparing ways for a group to play together, start with every way to play Arma Reforger with friends. This guide focuses on the narrower PvP-clan question: when to run your own match space and how to keep it organized.
Decide whether a private server solves a real problem#
Stay on public servers when the clan is small, attendance changes every session, and the goal is simply to play together. Public matches avoid server setup and recurring administration. They also mean your group accepts the server’s scenario, rules, population and other players.
A private server becomes useful when a fixed roster wants repeatable drills, private scrims, agreed settings or a session that does not depend on one member hosting from their game client. The tradeoff is that someone must handle access, updates, scenario choices, event notices and recovery decisions. A server does not create a balanced match or guarantee that every player can connect.
If a clan rents a managed server, Game Hosting’s Arma Reforger page documents the available settings, player-admin controls, scheduled restart options and backup slots. Those controls can reduce routine setup work; they are not evidence of a tested scrim, player capacity or restore result. A home server is another option if a member wants to own the machine and network setup.
Match the scenario to the practice goal#
Pick the mode based on what you want the roster to rehearse, rather than assuming a map is good for every clan size. Bohemia describes Capture & Hold as an objective-control mode. Its official Workshop currently lists nine Capture & Hold scenario entries, with published player ranges that vary by scenario. Those listing ranges are not a recommendation for small-team balance, and the available scenarios can change.
Conflict is the broader combined-arms mode for clans practicing movement between objectives and coordination across a larger area. Neither option is inherently the best scrim format: use the scenario that matches your agreed rules and the opposing team’s plan. Before announcing the event, open the exact Workshop listing and verify its current scenario ID, player range and required content.
Reforger’s server configuration sets a scenario ID; it does not provide automatic mission rotation in the documented config. Game Hosting’s panel can select from supported scenarios and offers restart scheduling, but do not promise an automatic map rotation. If you want a different scenario next week, make that a planned change and tell the roster what is changing.
Choose public, passworded or hidden access#
Use the access settings for the event you are running. Bohemia’s server config separates whether a server is visible in the browser from the password required to join. A password is a simple gate for a private scrim, but it is not a named-member whitelist: anyone given the password may share it. Rotate it between events if the attendee list changes, and distribute it through a channel your clan controls.
For open practice, a visible server can make it easier for members to find the session. Keep the event name and rules clear, and assign an admin who can handle unexpected visitors. For a private match, pair a password with a short roster announcement: server name, scenario, password, build channel and start time. Do not treat hidden visibility as a substitute for access control.
Give members access without promising reserved slots#
Bohemia’s operating.joinQueue settings can enable a queue, and the documented queue size range is 0 to 50 (0 disables it). Reforger’s admin-priority queue applies to admins listed with a Bohemia IdentityId; it does not make every SteamID entry a priority member. Priority is not a reserved slot and does not guarantee admission when the server is full.
Use the member’s Reforger IdentityId when configuring cross-platform admin access, and keep game-admin authority separate from access to the hosting panel. Bohemia raised the game configuration’s admin-list maximum from 20 to 30 in its August 2025 update. Game Hosting’s current panel-managed admin list still caps at 20, so clans using that panel should plan within its displayed limit.
Avoid publishing IdentityIds or passwords in a public event post. Name a small admin group, explain who can change match settings, and agree how to contact them if a member cannot join. The basic queue can prioritize eligible IdentityId admins, but it cannot promise a reserved place for every roster member.
Keep mixed-platform members on a compatible setup#
The dedicated-server crossPlatform setting controls whether the server accepts the cross-platform group. Bohemia documents PC-only as the default configuration and a PC-plus-console option for Xbox and PlayStation; it does not document an Xbox-and-PlayStation-only pair. Game Hosting’s Reforger panel currently enables crossplay by default. Confirm the live setting before a mixed-platform scrim instead of inferring it from the server name.
Keep everyone on the same release channel. The latest stable version found for this guide is 1.8.0.13, listed for all platforms; 1.9.0.10 is Experimental for Steam and Xbox Experimental apps. Experimental is a separate channel, and a stable client should not be scheduled against an Experimental server. Check Bohemia’s current release notes again before match day because versions can change.
If your clan uses mods, verify each required item’s current game version and PC, Xbox and PS5 compatibility in the Bohemia Workshop. Console players also have less mod storage than the maximum Xbox allocation: Bohemia documents 25 GB on PS5 and up to 50 GB on Xbox. These are platform limits, not free space guaranteed on an individual console. Share each item with its Workshop author credited, and avoid adding optional content immediately before a scrim.
Set a basic moderation and event routine#
Bohemia’s config enables BattlEye by default. Leave that documented baseline in place unless you have a specific reason to change it, and do not present anti-cheat as a substitute for admins, event rules or a way to report disruptive behavior. Write down who can pause a match, remove a visitor or handle a dispute. The detailed Reforger ban and kick workflow belongs in a separate moderation guide.
For each event, post the start time, timezone, scenario, roster expectations, server name, password if used, stable build and required mods. Have an admin join early enough to check the selected scenario and settings. Tell members to finish any Workshop downloads before the scheduled start. This is a practical checklist, not a claim that the author tested console clients or a particular server connection.
Game Hosting’s Reforger schedule control can wait for an empty server for up to three hours and saves before a scheduled restart. That is a restart option, not automatic scenario rotation. Before a version or scenario change, check the current backup and recovery instructions. Bohemia’s 1.7.0.41 changelog says the persistence UUID layout changed, binary became the default save format, and old save-game data is incompatible and ignored. Do not assume older save data will load after an update, and do not wipe or restore until you have confirmed a usable recovery copy.
For a milsim unit that needs a broader configuration and update baseline, see the Arma Reforger milsim server field guide. Clan match planning and unit operations overlap, but their priorities differ: a scrim checklist centers on the roster, match rules and access for a specific event.
Use this match-day checklist#
Before opening the server to the roster, confirm:
- The clan has a reason to use a private match instead of a public server.
- The exact scenario and its current player range fit the planned format.
- Every player is on the same stable release channel and required mods are compatible with their platform.
- Crossplay matches the roster, and the password is shared through a private channel when needed.
- Named admins know who handles access and disputes; queue priority is not treated as a reserved slot.
- A backup and recovery path are confirmed before any save-affecting change.
- Members receive the server name, event time, scenario, rules and required downloads.
If your clan does not need private access or recurring practice, keep joining public matches. If a fixed roster needs a repeatable venue, a dedicated server can give the organizers a place to set the scenario and access rules while the team focuses on the event. The clan still owns the match format, member compatibility and moderation plan.

Quick answers
Can a clan reserve slots on an Arma Reforger server?
A join queue can prioritize admins listed with Bohemia IdentityIds, but it is not a reserved seat or a guarantee of entry. Set a password for a private match and share it with the roster instead of relying on queue priority.
Which scenario is best for clan practice?
Choose from the match objective: Capture & Hold for focused control-point rounds or Conflict for broader combined-arms practice. Check the selected scenario’s current player range and rules; neither mode has a universally best clan size.
Should a clan server turn BattlEye off?
BattlEye is enabled by default in Bohemia’s documented server configuration. Keep the default unless the clan has a specific, understood reason to change it; it does not replace moderation or guarantee that every disruptive player is stopped.
