Arma Reforger on PS5: Servers, Mods and Playing With Friends
Arma Reforger on PS5 supports compatible crossplay servers and Workshop mods. Check the 25 GB limit, builds and group hosting options.
You will need
- Arma Reforger installed on PlayStation 5
- The server name and password, if the group uses one
- Enough PS5 Workshop storage for the required mods
Arma Reforger runs on PS5, and you can play with PC and Xbox friends on a server configured for all platforms. A PS5 can join a compatible server, but it cannot host the group; your choices are a public server, a PC friend’s temporary session, or a dedicated server that stays online. Before you pick, check the build your group uses and whether the required Bohemia Workshop mods fit within PS5’s 25 GB allocation.
Find an Arma Reforger PS5 server that supports crossplay#
A PS5 player can join only a server that includes PlayStation in its supported platforms. Bohemia’s dedicated-server configuration describes two valid platform modes: PC-only, or cross-platform play across PC, Xbox and PlayStation. It does not document a PC-and-PS5-only mode that excludes Xbox.
| Server mode | PC players | Xbox players | PS5 players |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC-only | Yes | No | No |
| Cross-platform | Yes | Yes | Yes |
That setting belongs to the server. It does not guarantee that every public listing is available to you: a server can still require a compatible game build, mods, or a password. The browser can filter for platform compatibility, so start with servers your PS5 client identifies as compatible instead of asking a friend to send a PC-only listing.
If one friend cannot see the same server, compare the server’s platform mode and each player’s release version before changing unrelated settings. The full PC, Xbox and PlayStation rules are in our guide to Arma Reforger crossplay.
Match the stable or Experimental build before you join#
Your group’s game and server need compatible versions. As checked on October 13, 2026, Bohemia’s latest Stable release is 1.8.0.13, updated across all platforms on September 3. The latest Experimental release listed is 1.9.0.10 for Steam and Xbox Experimental applications, published September 22; the release notes do not list a PS5 Experimental application.
For a group that includes a PS5 player, choose the shared Stable release unless Bohemia publishes a matching PlayStation Experimental build. A PC friend testing Experimental may not be able to bring a PS5 player into that test session. Check the official news index close to game night because patch versions can change, and have everyone update before the organizer starts the server.
Do not treat “Experimental” as a server-side toggle that makes different client builds interchangeable. It is a separate application and release line. When a friend reports a version error, ask which build they installed and compare it with the server’s build before you rebuild the mod list or switch hosting routes.
Check Workshop mods against the PS5 limit#
PS5 supports the in-game Bohemia Workshop; it does not use Steam Workshop for Reforger mods. Bohemia added PS5 Workshop support in update 1.4, and its current Workshop documentation says players can download required content when joining a server. A server’s mod list still needs to work with each player’s platform and game version.
PlayStation allocates 25 GB for Reforger mods. Bohemia’s Workshop documentation also lists up to 50 GB on Xbox, but those are separate console budgets; the Xbox figure does not increase the PS5 allocation. The Workshop reference says console download speed is limited to around 25 Mbps (about 3.1 MB/s). Treat that as a documented ceiling, not a speed your connection will always reach or a promised download time.
Before your group commits to a large modded server, ask the organizer for the required list and compare its total with the PS5 allocation in the host’s mod controls. Leave room for updates: a collection that fit last month can exceed the allocation after a mod grows. If the console reports insufficient space, remove unused Workshop content or ask the organizer whether the group can use a smaller set. Restarting a failed download repeatedly is not a useful fix; Bohemia’s PS5 mod statement recommends retrying failed items individually.
Game Hosting’s Arma Reforger panel shows the estimated mod total against the PS5 and Xbox limits while you manage a server, which helps a group notice a storage mismatch before inviting console players. The panel is a planning aid; it cannot make an incompatible Workshop item usable on PS5. For the full compatibility and storage rules, use the official Workshop reference.
Remember that PS5 can join but cannot host#
Bohemia documents two server types: player-hosted sessions and dedicated servers. Player-hosting is available on PC only. A PlayStation player can join a compatible PC-hosted session, but the PS5 itself cannot start that listen server or run the dedicated-server application for everyone.
This is the practical distinction behind “playing on PS5 with friends.” The console is a client: the server runs on a PC friend’s machine or on a separate dedicated host. If the PC friend closes the game or ends the hosted session, that route ends with them. A rented dedicated server keeps the hosting machine separate from the person playing, but still needs compatible settings and mods.
The official server-hosting guide explains the PC-only player-hosted mode. For the privacy and setup trade-offs between a password-protected server, a PC session and a rental, see how to get an Arma Reforger private server.
Choose where your PS5 group wants to play#
If your group wants a persistent world without asking one friend to keep a PC session running, Game Hosting is our recommended managed route: its Arma Reforger listing includes PC, Xbox and PS5 support, and its panel compares the Workshop total with console storage limits. That gives the organizer a way to plan for a mixed-platform mod list in the same place they manage the dedicated server. Check the Arma Reforger hosting options against your group’s needs.
| Route | When it fits | What the group gives up |
|---|---|---|
| Public server | You want to join a session already running and do not need to choose its rules or mod list. | You may not control the scenario, access, or who else plays there. |
| Friend’s PC-hosted session | A PC player can start the session when everyone is ready, and a temporary world is enough. | The session depends on that PC player hosting; it is not the same as a separate, always-available dedicated server. |
| Rented dedicated server | Your group wants a separate host and a world that does not rely on a friend’s game session staying open. | Someone still needs to choose settings, manage required mods, and share any recurring cost. |
There is no need to rent a server just because one member owns a PS5. Public play or a friend’s PC-hosted session can be enough for an occasional match. A dedicated server makes more sense when the group wants its own persistent setup and is willing to coordinate the server’s build, platform support and mod list. Compare those requirements before comparing plan sizes.
Before choosing, write down who will start or manage the session, whether you need the world available when that person is offline, and which required mods every console player can use. A product page that lists console support answers only the platform-scope question; it does not establish that every Workshop item fits your PS5 or that your client has joined a particular server. Keep the group’s actual mod list and expected play schedule in the decision, then choose the simplest route that covers both.
Prepare the PS5 group before game night#
Use this short handoff with whoever runs the server:
- Confirm the server includes PlayStation. Ask whether it is in cross-platform mode; the documented alternative is PC-only.
- Match the release line. Check that the PS5 client and server use compatible Stable builds. Do not assume a PS5 client can join an Experimental test.
- Get the required Workshop list. Check the PS5 mod allocation before the group is waiting in a lobby, then download or update the items in the game’s Workshop.
- Get the exact server name and password. If the group uses a private server, the organizer should provide its join details through the agreed channel. The private-server guide explains what passwords and visibility settings do.
- Separate joining from administration. An ordinary player does not need an admin ID to join. If a PS5 friend will administer the dedicated server, the organizer should ask for that player’s Bohemia
IdentityId; a PSN display name is not the same identifier. Bohemia documents IdentityIds in the server’s admin configuration.
If a single PS5 player is blocked, ask which message they see and compare that player’s build and required mods with the server. Those checks isolate the usual compatibility questions without wiping the console’s Workshop library or changing the server’s scenario. Quick answers
Is Arma Reforger available on PS5?
Yes. The PS5 version can join compatible Arma Reforger servers, including cross-platform servers configured for PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
Can PS5 players join modded Arma Reforger servers?
Yes. PS5 has access to the in-game Bohemia Workshop, but each required mod must be available for the player’s platform and fit within the console’s 25 GB mod allocation.
Can you host an Arma Reforger server on PS5?
No. Bohemia documents player-hosted sessions as PC-only; PS5 players can join a compatible PC-hosted session or dedicated server.
Can PS5 players join an Experimental server?
Bohemia’s current Experimental release notes list Steam and Xbox Experimental applications, not a PS5 Experimental client. Check the current release notes and keep the group on a matching build.
