Is Arma Reforger Crossplay? PC, Xbox and PS5 Explained
Is Arma Reforger crossplay? See how PC, Xbox and PS5 servers work, the crossplay setting, console mods, storage limits and version rules.
You will need
- Arma Reforger on the current stable release
- A server configured for cross-platform play
- Compatible game and server versions
Is Arma Reforger crossplay? Yes: a dedicated server can bring PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players into the same session when its cross-platform setting is enabled. A PC-only server will leave console friends out, and Bohemia’s server configuration defaults to that PC-only mode. This guide explains the platform switch, console mods and storage, and the version rule to check before your group connects.
If you are organizing a mixed-platform group and would rather not maintain a PC as the host, Game Hosting’s Arma Reforger server is a dedicated option with crossplay enabled by default and a console mod-size check in the panel. The game supports self-hosting too; the sections below help you choose the right setup and avoid inviting friends to a server they cannot use.
Is Arma Reforger crossplay on PC, Xbox and PS5?#
For the current stable game, Bohemia’s server configuration describes two platform modes. Leave cross-platform play disabled and the server is PC-only. Enable it and the supported group expands to PC, Xbox and PlayStation together. The official configuration documentation describes these as the valid choices; it does not offer a server-side switch for just PC plus PS5 or just Xbox plus PS5.
| Server mode | PC | Xbox Series X|S | PlayStation 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
PC-only (crossPlatform: false) |
Yes | No | No |
Cross-platform (crossPlatform: true) |
Yes | Yes | Yes |
This is a server setting, not a promise that any two players can join any server regardless of version, access settings or required content. Official servers, community servers and private dedicated servers can have different settings. When a friend cannot see or enter a server, first ask its owner whether crossplay is enabled and which stable build is running.
Bohemia’s Server Config reference is the source for the platform field and allowed modes. It describes crossPlatform as a Boolean that defaults to false; if it is false, the default supported platform is PC. That default explains why a freshly configured self-hosted server may not be ready for console players even though the game itself supports crossplay. Server owners can follow the crossplay setup guide for the exact JSON edit, release-channel check and console mod limits.
Set the server to the all-platform mode#
For a self-hosted dedicated server, the relevant setting is game.crossPlatform in the server’s JSON configuration. Set it to true, save valid JSON, and restart or reload the server using the instructions for your installation. Do not add a separate platform allowlist expecting to create a two-platform combination: Bohemia documents PC-only or all three platforms for this setting.

}This is an excerpt showing the property, not a complete replacement for your config.json. Preserve the rest of your server configuration and use the exact structure required by the installed server build. A typo, invalid comma or placing the property outside game can stop the server from reading the setting. After restart, check the current config and server startup log rather than assuming a successful save changed the running instance.
Managed panels may choose their own initial value. That is why the engine’s false default and a hosting panel’s default are not contradictory: the host can supply a template with crossplay already enabled. On Game Hosting, the current Arma Reforger panel starts with crossplay on; if you use another panel or a self-managed server, inspect its own setting before sharing the join details.
For a click-by-click panel walkthrough, wait for the separate configuration guide in this site’s Arma Reforger series. This page focuses on which platforms the setting covers, so it does not substitute an outdated server.cfg example or invent console-specific pair settings.
Check Workshop content and console storage before inviting friends#
PS5 players are not categorically excluded from modded servers. Bohemia added the Workshop to PS5 in its May 2025 update and described cross-platform compatibility for modded content. Players still need the server’s required items to be available and downloaded on their own platform. A mod that is missing, outdated or incompatible with a player’s game build can prevent that player from joining even when the server’s crossplay mode is correct.
Console storage puts a practical ceiling on how much Workshop content a player can keep installed. Bohemia documents 25 GB on PS5 and 50 GB on Xbox for mods. Those are client-side library limits, not server disk allowances and not a guarantee that a particular collection fits. The PS5 technical statement also explains that console storage behavior can make mod downloads feel slower than on PC; there is no single download time that applies to every player or network. For Xbox Series X|S compatibility, storage and server options, read Arma Reforger on Xbox. For the PS5-specific view of these limits and the hosting routes available to a console group, read Arma Reforger on PS5.
Before adding a large mod collection, ask console players to check free mod space and download the server’s required content while there is time to troubleshoot. Start with a smaller collection if the group is split across platforms, then add items deliberately. If a PC player joins but a console friend is blocked, compare the required mods and versions on that friend’s platform before changing the server’s crossplay setting again.
Bohemia’s Basics of Mod Use explains how server-required mods are downloaded and why clients need compatible content. For practical collection choices, use the item’s own platform and build information; a Workshop listing by itself is not proof that every update works on every console.
Keep every player on the same release channel#
Crossplay depends on the server and players using compatible game builds. As of October 8, 2026, Bohemia’s latest stable release is 1.8.0.13, released to all platforms on September 3. Its current Experimental news lists 1.9.0.10, updated for Steam and Xbox Experimental on September 22. Experimental is a separate release line; do not send a stable client to an Experimental server or assume an Experimental build is available for PS5 because stable updates reach PlayStation.
| Channel | Current official version noted here | Platform note |
|---|---|---|
| Stable | 1.8.0.13 | September update released across all platforms |
| Experimental | 1.9.0.10 | September update names Steam and Xbox Experimental applications; no current PS5 Experimental release is listed |
Use the stable update notes and Experimental update notes to check the branch your group intends to play. If the server owner tests Experimental, every joining player needs the matching Experimental application and compatible build. For a mixed PC, Xbox and PS5 group, the documented all-platform path is the main stable release; keep the server there unless Bohemia announces the matching console coverage you need.
When a friend is missing from the server browser, compare the full version and release channel before changing ports or deleting saved data. An update can arrive at different times on individual stores, so two players who both say “the latest version” may still be on different builds. Confirm the exact version displayed by each client and the server first.
Choose a host that console players can actually use#
Bohemia distinguishes a player-hosted session from a dedicated server. Its Server Hosting documentation says player-hosted/listen servers are available on PC. Console players therefore need to join a PC-hosted session or a dedicated server; a PS5 or Xbox owner cannot run the listen server for everyone from the console itself.
For a small group that already has a PC available and can keep it online, self-hosting can be enough. If that machine belongs to the player who wants to play, remember that it must also run the server process and stay online for the session. A rented dedicated server is useful when you want the world available without tying it to one player’s console or gaming PC. Check the service’s platform setting and its mod management before paying, because the server’s crossplay mode and each console’s mod storage both affect who can join.
Game Hosting’s current Arma Reforger service supports PC, Xbox and PS5 crossplay, starts with crossplay enabled, and provides a scenario picker and Workshop mod controls with a console size check. Those features address the practical setup questions for a mixed-platform group; they do not remove Bohemia’s version and mod compatibility requirements. Review the server options against your group’s platform mix and intended Workshop collection.
If you are still comparing server setups, our Arma Reforger hosting checklist covers the questions to ask about memory, backups, locations and panel controls. Confirm current plan details on the provider’s page before choosing; server plans and features can change.
Add console administrators with a Bohemia identity#
If a console player will help manage the server, do not assume their Xbox gamertag or PSN name is the identifier the dedicated server expects. Bohemia’s configuration reference supports player IdentityId values in the administrator list. The current Game Hosting player panel also provides Bohemia ID support for server administration, while PC players can use the supported Steam ID format.
Ask the player for the Bohemia identity shown by the game or its official account tools, then add the value using the format documented for your server panel or configuration. Keep the list limited to people who need admin permissions. If the ID is rejected, verify its exact spelling and identifier type instead of swapping in a display name; names can change and may not map to a server identity.
This is a separate issue from crossplay: a player can be eligible to join the server but still lack the right identifier for administrator access. First resolve platform mode, build and required mods for joining. Set up admin access only after the player can connect and the server owner has verified the identity format.
Run this quick check before your group connects#
Crossplay is a short configuration check when everyone uses the same stable release. Confirm that the server is set to all-platform mode, tell console players which mods it requires, and keep the server and clients on the same channel. If one person still cannot join, compare their exact build and missing content before wiping the mod library or changing unrelated server settings.
Use the official references above for the game rules, then check the current panel for host-specific controls. With the platform mode, release channel and required Workshop items aligned, your PC, Xbox and PS5 group has the documented setup to join the same dedicated server.
Quick answers
Is Arma Reforger crossplay between PC, Xbox and PS5?
Yes. Bohemia documents cross-platform dedicated servers for PC, Xbox and PS5 when crossPlatform is enabled; the PC-only configuration does not include console players.
Is crossplay enabled by default on an Arma Reforger server?
The game server configuration defaults to PC-only. Managed panels can use a different template; check the crossplay setting on your own server instead of assuming the engine default applies.
Can PS5 and Xbox players use mods together?
Bohemia supports Workshop content on PS5 and documents cross-platform modded play, but each console has a storage cap and every required item must be available to each player.
Can I join an Experimental server from the stable game?
Do not mix release channels. The current stable release is 1.8.0.13, while Experimental is a separate build line; keep the server and clients on the same channel and version.
