Arma Reforger on Xbox: Servers, Mods and Crossplay
See which Xbox consoles run Arma Reforger, how crossplay and Workshop mods work, and which server options fit your group.
You will need
- Arma Reforger installed on Xbox Series X|S
- The server name and password, if the group uses one
- Enough Xbox Workshop storage for the server’s required mods
Arma Reforger on Xbox is the Series X|S version, and it can join compatible servers with PC and PS5 players when crossplay is enabled. The Xbox itself cannot run a dedicated server, so your group can join a public server, use a PC friend’s player-hosted session, or choose a separate dedicated server. If the server uses Workshop mods, check the required list and the Xbox storage budget before game night.
Check that your Xbox is a Series X|S#
The current Xbox Store listing marks Arma Reforger as Optimized for Xbox Series X|S and lists Xbox Series X|S among its play platforms. It does not list Xbox One. If you are deciding whether to buy the game for an older console, use the current listing’s compatibility section; do not assume that an Xbox One version is supported because the game appears in an Xbox search.
The listing also identifies Xbox Play Anywhere and says the title can be played on Xbox and Windows PC with that entitlement. That describes the game license across those platforms. It does not turn an Xbox console into a server host, and it does not mean that a PC dedicated-server application is included or installed by the console version.
For console players, separate three questions before buying: whether the console runs the game, whether your group’s server accepts that platform, and whether the Xbox account can use online multiplayer. Those checks have different answers and requirements. A compatible game license alone does not make every server visible or remove the separate Xbox online-multiplayer subscription requirement shown on the store listing.
Use crossplay to join PC and PS5 friends#
Xbox players can play with PC and PlayStation 5 players on an Arma Reforger server configured for cross-platform play. Bohemia’s server configuration reference describes the supported platform set; the server must accept the platforms in your group. The setting does not make mismatched game versions or unavailable mods compatible.
When you are choosing a server, confirm it is cross-platform, then compare the current game version and required mod list with the other players. A listing can still be hidden or unusable because of a password, a version mismatch, or a required Workshop item. If you are troubleshooting who can join whom, our broader guide to Arma Reforger crossplay covers the PC, Xbox and PS5 platform rules.
Crossplay does not mean that progress follows you between platforms. Bohemia’s support page says progress, mods and saved data cannot currently transfer between PC and Xbox. Before someone changes platforms or switches servers, confirm which save belongs to the server and whether the destination uses the same scenario and mods.
Keep required Workshop mods within Xbox storage#
Arma Reforger uses the in-game Bohemia Workshop for mods; it is not Steam Workshop. Bohemia’s mod-use guide explains console downloads and storage. When you join a modded Reforger server, the Xbox client downloads the server’s required mods; you cannot select only part of the required set and still join. Updates can change a mod’s version or size, so a list that worked before may need to download again.
Bohemia’s May 2026 update says Xbox’s local mod storage can grow automatically from 1 GB up to 50 GB, depending on usage. Think of 50 GB as the available ceiling, not a guarantee that every server’s mod collection will fit or that a download will finish quickly. The storage is managed on the Xbox; the host does not increase that console allocation by changing a server setting.
Before joining, ask the organizer which mods are required and check the available storage reported by the game. If the full set exceeds the available allocation, the group may need a smaller mod set or a different server. Do not remove a required mod from your console and expect the server to admit you without it.
Separate Xbox Play Anywhere from server hosting#
Xbox Play Anywhere lets a qualifying purchase be used on Xbox and Windows PC. Bohemia announced its Microsoft Store and Xbox Play Anywhere release with version 1.8 in August 2026. The entitlement can make it easier to move between the console client and the Windows game, but playing on PC is still different from running a server for other people.
Bohemia’s server-hosting guide documents player-hosted sessions as available on PC only. An Xbox Series X|S can join a server, but it cannot run the Reforger dedicated-server application. A PC friend can start a player-hosted session while they play; a dedicated server runs separately from the player’s console or game session. Play Anywhere does not change that hosting distinction, and the dedicated-server tool is not the same thing as launching the Xbox game on a PC.
This matters when your group wants to play at different times. If the PC player closes their hosted session, that session is no longer being hosted by that player. If you need a server that is managed separately from whoever is playing, choose a dedicated-server route and make sure it supports the Xbox client, crossplay, and your required mod set.
Choose how your Xbox group gets a server#
Your group has three practical routes. Join a public server if its rules and mod list suit you. Ask a PC friend to host a player session if you only need a session while that person is online. Use a dedicated server when you want hosting to be separate from a player’s console or PC session.
For a persistent mixed-platform group, Game Hosting offers a managed Arma Reforger server with PC, Xbox and PS5 support. Its panel exposes a crossplay setting and scenario controls, and its mod manager estimates the required mod total against Xbox and PS5 storage limits. That gives the organizer a place to check the console budget while managing the server’s mod list. It does not guarantee every Workshop mod is compatible or that a particular Xbox client has joined successfully. Review the Arma Reforger hosting options if your group has decided it needs its own dedicated server.
There is no need to rent a server for every group. Public play or a PC friend’s session may be enough for occasional matches. Choose a dedicated server when the group wants its own settings, a server that does not rely on a friend keeping a game session open, and someone willing to coordinate updates and required mods. Before switching, make a backup and confirm the current save can be recovered; scenario and mod changes can affect the world the group expects to keep.
Match the Stable or Experimental release#
As checked on October 13, 2026, Bohemia’s latest Stable release is 1.8.0.13, published for all platforms on September 3. Its latest listed Experimental release is 1.9.0.10, updated on September 22 for the Steam and Xbox Experimental applications. Experimental is a separate release line; its players need to use compatible Experimental clients and mods. The current release notes do not list a PS5 Experimental client.
For a group that includes Xbox and PS5 players, use the shared Stable release unless Bohemia publishes a compatible console Experimental build. Console updates are delivered through each platform’s normal update process, so a server operator should check that the server build matches the clients after a patch. Check Bohemia’s official news index before game night because release numbers can change.
If one player cannot see a server after an update, compare the client and server release first. Do not assume that crossplay, Play Anywhere, or a shared mod name makes different builds interchangeable. Keep the stable group on Stable, and only use Experimental when everyone has the matching Experimental application and accepts that mods may not yet be compatible.
Quick answers for Xbox players#
Does Game Pass include Arma Reforger? The current Xbox Store listing shows the game for purchase and says purchase is required for cloud play. It lists Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate as a separate requirement for console online multiplayer; it does not show the game as included in the catalog. Check the current store listing before buying because catalog and subscription terms can change.
Can Xbox players join a PC server? Yes, if the server accepts cross-platform play and the game versions and required mods are compatible. A PC session can also be player-hosted, but the host’s PC must keep that session running.
Can an Xbox host a dedicated server? No. The Xbox is a client. Use a PC player-hosted session or a separate dedicated server if your group needs its own world.
The most useful pre-game check is simple: confirm Series X|S support, agree on the Stable or Experimental release, and ask the organizer for the required mod list. Then pick a public session, PC friend’s session or dedicated server that fits how often your group plays.
