You will need

  • Your group's platforms and usual scenario
  • A target monthly budget and billing interval

Cheap Arma Reforger server hosting can work for a small group, but compare what the monthly price actually includes: memory, billing terms, platform and mod workflow, and a recovery path for your world. If you value an explicit allocation and integrated controls, we recommend Game Hosting’s Arma Reforger plans: the $19.99 monthly 8 GB tier lists a Ryzen 9 9900X, four threads and three backup slots. It is not the cheapest listing; use this checklist to decide whether those details matter to your group or a less expensive plan is a better fit.

Compare the full monthly commitment before choosing a cheap plan#

Start with the price for the term you will actually pay. A low “from” price may refer to a smaller configuration, a longer prepaid term or a temporary offer. Confirm the selected memory, renewal price, billing interval, currency, tax and any add-ons on the checkout summary. If the final amount is missing, ask the provider before entering payment details.

As checked on October 18, 2026, Game Hosting lists Arma Reforger plans at $19.99 per month for 8 GB, $26.99 for 12 GB and $34.99 for 16 GB. The 8 GB plan lists a Ryzen 9 9900X with four threads, DDR5 memory, NVMe storage, nightly backups and the Reforger panel. Those are published specifications and features, not a performance test or a promise that every scenario fits a particular number of players.

We recommend that plan when your priority is a clearly stated memory tier, a named processor allocation and backup controls in the game panel. If your budget is firm, cheaper listings exist: for example, LOW.MS displayed a 10 GB plan at $10.95 per month and up to 20 included cloud backups on the date checked. That is a real lower-price option, and the extra memory and backup count do not prove it performs better or worse. Its CPU allocation was not named on the page we checked, so treat that detail as unknown rather than as a defect.

For the cost of splitting a bill across friends, compare monthly and annual totals and the actual upfront charge in our Arma Reforger monthly server cost guide. To compare plan features beyond price, use the broader guide to choosing an Arma Reforger host.

Read memory and slot counts as different plan details#

Memory tells you one resource allocated to a server; a slot count tells you the number of player connections the listing sells or allows. Neither number alone proves how a given scenario will run. Arma Reforger’s technical server configuration accepts a maxPlayers value up to 128, but that is not a workload guarantee or a hosting plan recommendation.

When a provider sells a slot-based plan, ask what memory and CPU allocation comes with the exact tier. When it sells a memory-based plan, check whether its suggested player count is a recommendation or a hard limit. Do not compare a 10-slot offer with an 8 GB offer as though the numbers describe the same thing. Scenario, mod set and activity all affect server load, and a price page cannot substitute for testing your real group.

Use our Arma Reforger RAM guide by player count for a starting estimate, then check the server’s own memory readings after a representative session. If memory rises toward the plan limit or the server reports errors, reduce optional workload or test a larger tier. Do not treat an advertised player count as evidence that your exact modded scenario will stay stable.

Check that a budget plan fits every player’s platform and mods#

Before you buy, list who will join from PC, Xbox and PS5, then check that the provider exposes the server’s cross-platform setting and Reforger Workshop mods. The official server configuration documents crossPlatform as off by default; enabling it allows a compatible main-version server to accept the supported platforms together. Experimental is a separate, incompatible build track, so a cheap plan does not solve a client/server version mismatch.

Reforger mods come from Bohemia Workshop, not Steam Workshop. A server can load the right mods while a console player’s local library still runs out of space. Bohemia documents a 25 GB persistent mod storage limit on PS5 and up to 50 GB on Xbox. Keep the group’s mod list within the tightest console limit if everyone needs to join. These are client storage limits, not server RAM amounts.

Ask whether the panel lets you review the Workshop mod IDs, dependencies and versions before restarting. If the panel does not show those details, ask how you can inspect the list and how to restore the previous one after a bad update. Avoid adding mods you have not checked against the current game build. No specific mod is required for this buying decision, so this guide does not endorse or attribute any mod authors.

For detailed cross-platform rules and console storage, see our Arma Reforger crossplay guide. If a console player cannot join, confirm the server’s build, cross-platform setting and mod compatibility before blaming the host’s price or performance.

Match the server update track to the clients you use#

Stable and Experimental are separate versions. The official news index checked October 18, 2026 lists Stable 1.8.0.13 and Experimental 1.9.0.10; the Experimental update names separate Steam and Xbox Experimental applications. Do not assume a PlayStation Experimental client exists or that Experimental can join a Stable server.

Ask how the provider applies server updates and whether you can see the current build before your group tries to connect. Reforger clients update automatically, so a server left on a different branch or build can reject players even when ports and passwords are correct. The server’s update controls should match the clients your group actually runs; the ability to delay a server update does not make incompatible builds compatible.

Before a major update, check the current official Arma Reforger news and release notes, then confirm the server and all clients will be on the same track. A plan page that says “automatic updates” does not tell you whether you can schedule a restart, inspect a build number or prepare for a mod that has not been updated yet. Ask those questions if your community depends on a specific mod pack or event schedule.

Separate game persistence from a provider backup you can recover#

Arma Reforger’s persistence settings control the session save. The documented defaults save every 10 minutes, retain 10 saves and load the latest save on startup. A provider backup is a separate copy with different timing, retention and restore steps; one does not prove the other exists.

Before choosing a plan, find out how often backups run, how many are retained, whether you can lock or download one, and what a restore replaces. Check that the plan includes a recovery path you understand, not just the word “backup.” If the provider does not publish one of those details, ask support or treat it as unconfirmed. Game Hosting currently lists nightly backups and three backup slots; those product features do not mean we tested a restore in this article.

The 1.7.0.41 update changed persistence UUID layout and made older save-game data incompatible; the official May 2026 changelog says older save data is ignored. That is a reason to preserve a separate copy before changing versions, scenarios or mods, not proof that a host backup can repair an incompatible save. Verify the backup date and recovery instructions before a change that could replace your only good world.

Our server persistence guide explains how session saves differ from provider copies. If restoring the world is essential, ask the provider how to recover first and test the process on a non-critical copy where possible.

Choose the lower price when its unknowns are acceptable#

A cheaper plan can be the right answer when it publishes enough resources for your workload, supports your platforms and mod workflow, and gives you recovery terms you are comfortable with. A higher price does not prove better performance, and an unnamed CPU or backup detail does not prove a provider is cutting corners. Compare the exact plan, state what remains unknown, and decide whether that unknown matters to your group.

If you already have a suitable PC, home hosting can cost less than a rental, provided someone can leave it online and maintain updates, configuration and backups. Our home PC server requirements guide covers the self-hosted route. If nobody wants to operate the machine, a managed server trades that upkeep for a recurring bill.

Use this short check before paying:

  • Save the exact monthly checkout total, renewal term and included add-ons.
  • Confirm the memory and what any slot count actually means.
  • Check cross-platform support, Workshop workflow and console storage fit.
  • Match the server build to your clients’ Stable or Experimental track.
  • Read backup frequency, retention and restore instructions before making changes.

If you have a trial or first month to evaluate, use our Arma Reforger trial checklist to test those checks with your actual group before committing.

For a managed option with a published 8 GB tier, named CPU allocation, nightly backups and a Reforger panel, compare Game Hosting’s current Arma Reforger plan details. If the lower quote meets your group’s needs and its recovery terms are clear, paying less may be the sensible choice.

Quick answers

What is the cheapest way to host an Arma Reforger server?

A spare PC can cost less if you already own it and can maintain it. Otherwise compare the full monthly price, resources and recovery terms of managed plans; the lowest listing is not automatically the best fit.

Is 8 GB enough for a cheap Arma Reforger server?

It depends on your scenario, mods and group. An 8 GB label is a resource amount, not proof of a particular player count; use our RAM guide to choose a starting tier.

Can Xbox and PS5 players join a cheap Reforger server?

They can join a compatible main-version dedicated server when cross-platform play is enabled and the mod list fits each console. Verify the provider supports those controls before paying.

Are server saves the same as host backups?

No. Game persistence saves the session; a provider backup is a separate copy with its own retention and restore process.
