You will need

  • The DayZ edition and platform your group uses
  • Your usual number of players and any planned mods

If your group plays DayZ on Steam for PC, compare a server’s slot count with the resources and billing unit behind it. A DayZ server slot usually describes a simultaneous connection allowance; it does not tell you how much RAM or CPU comes with the plan. For a Steam-PC group that wants those details in view before choosing, we recommend Game Hosting’s DayZ plans: each tier lists its memory alongside a Ryzen 9 9900X and four CPU threads, plus a group-size recommendation, with no per-player charge inside that tier. This guide helps you choose a tier for your regular roster without mistaking a login queue for extra capacity or a recommendation for a hard cap.

Read DayZ server slots as a connection allowance#

A paid slot is a provider’s way of describing how many players its plan lets connect at the same time. If an offer says 10 slots, treat that as a stated connection allowance for that plan, then check the terms for whether slots can be changed and how that affects billing. It is not a measurement of how smoothly the server will run.

The word “slot” can also refer to different things in a server panel. A provider may show the purchased slot count, while DayZ has a maxPlayers setting in its server configuration. The provider’s contract and the running server setting should agree. If they do not, you could pay for a larger plan while the game config still turns players away, or set a higher number than your plan permits.

Do not read a slot count as a shortcut for comparing hardware. The listing may or may not publish memory, CPU, storage, or a tested workload. When those details matter to your group, compare them separately and ask what the plan includes. An undisclosed resource is unknown; the slot count alone does not prove that one server performs better or worse than another.

Separate maxPlayers from the login queue#

DayZ’s server configuration reference shows maxPlayers separately from the login queue settings. Its example uses maxPlayers = 60, loginQueueConcurrentPlayers = 5, and loginQueueMaxPlayers = 500. These values describe different parts of joining: the configured player count, how many queued logins can be processed at once, and how many players may wait in the queue. The 500 value is not 500 people playing in the world.

That example is a reference configuration, not proof that every host supports 60 players with the same performance, nor that 60 is an absolute engine limit for every version and configuration. Do not raise the player count based on the queue number or a provider’s maximum-slot selector. Ask the host which value it controls and whether the selected plan’s terms allow it.

If the server reaches its configured player count, a queue can make the wait more orderly, but it does not create more active spots. The exact field and whether you can change it depend on the host’s panel and plan terms. Ask which setting controls active players before you pay for a larger allowance.

Match your usual roster to a published plan recommendation#

Start with the people who regularly play together, not the largest number that might visit once. Game Hosting publishes DayZ plans by memory and shows a “plays well with” group-size recommendation. That makes it possible to compare a roster with a stated plan tier without calling the recommendation a maximum.

Your usual roster Published DayZ plan reference How to use it
2 players Squad: 8 GB; plays well with 10 This is the entry tier’s stated reference. A two-person group can compare its mod and configuration needs with the published allocation.
6 players Squad: 8 GB; plays well with 10 Six is below the displayed recommendation, but that alone does not guarantee a particular workload. Check the map, mods and resources you expect to use.
10 players Squad: 8 GB; plays well with 10 The displayed recommendation matches this roster. Treat it as guidance, not a cap or a promise for every mod collection.
30 players Party: 12 GB; plays well with 30 The published recommendation gives a starting point for comparing the larger tier. It is still not a tested capacity guarantee.

The current public listing checked October 13, 2026, showed Squad at $16.99 per month and Party at $24.99 per month. Game Hosting does not charge per player within a tier; moving to a larger memory tier changes the monthly price. Check the live DayZ plan page before you decide, since prices and product details can change.

These rows help you locate the closest published reference, not calculate RAM per player. Mods, configuration, persistence and actual workload can change what a server needs. Compare the resources listed on each current plan and avoid converting a recommendation into a guaranteed headcount. If you need to estimate total spend or split the recurring bill, our guide to DayZ server costs by scenario handles that separate decision.

Compare what the provider actually sells#

Slot-priced and memory-priced plans use different units. One describes a connection allowance; the other describes a resource allocation. Neither unit by itself tells you what the other contains. Our Nitrado DayZ PC comparison examines its current PC offer and the details it publishes, while this guide focuses on choosing a useful reference for a known group size.

Before checkout, write down the answers to these questions:

Check What to confirm
Platform Does the plan run the exact DayZ edition your group owns? Game Hosting serves Steam PC only.
Active players Is the displayed number a paid slot allowance, a server setting, or a recommendation?
Resources Does the offer show RAM and CPU for that plan? If not, ask rather than inferring from slots.
Billing Is the amount monthly, prepaid for a fixed term, or recurring? Does changing slots change the total?
Changes Can you resize later, and what happens to the price and existing world files?

This checklist helps you compare like with like and catch an important mismatch before paying. A provider’s maximum-slot selector may be much higher than your group needs; a memory plan may show a suggested roster without a slot fee. If your main question is the full monthly bill or how to split it, see DayZ server costs by scenario rather than using slots as a cost estimate.

Keep platform compatibility ahead of the slot number#

The server must match the edition every player uses. This article and Game Hosting’s plan recommendations apply to DayZ for Steam on PC. They do not cover Xbox, PlayStation, or the Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC build. A high slot count cannot bridge separate platform server pools, so confirm the store version before comparing any plans.

For a Steam-PC group that prefers a named memory tier and a published group-size reference, Game Hosting is our recommendation. It charges no per-player fee within a selected tier and lists the CPU and memory details for the DayZ plans. The “plays well with” number is guidance rather than a connection cap, and choosing more memory costs more. If someone in your group needs console hosting or the Xbox-app PC build, choose a service that supports that edition instead of trying to solve the mismatch with extra slots.

If you are still choosing between self-hosting and renting, our guide to a private DayZ server for friends covers the broader options. For a rented server, pick the plan whose actual platform, billing unit and published resources match what your group values, then keep the slot count in its proper role: a connection allowance, not a hardware benchmark.

Check the server’s numbers before inviting everyone#

Once you have a candidate plan, verify the setting the provider controls and the maximum your account permits before sharing the address. If the panel shows a plan size and the game configuration shows maxPlayers, ask support if those numbers appear inconsistent. Do not change a value beyond the service’s terms or assume a queued player counts as an active slot.

Then compare the plan against the group you expect most weeks. A group of six that expects to add mods may care more about the published resources and support for those mods than an unused slot allowance. A group of 30 should start with a tier that publishes a 30-player recommendation, but still check the details for its exact map, configuration and mod list. Neither case can be answered by multiplying a server slot count by a universal RAM figure; no such universal ratio is established here.

For a general selection checklist across providers, read how to choose a DayZ host. If the offer’s billing unit is still unclear, ask the provider to confirm the active-player limit, included resources, renewal terms and resize rules in writing before you buy.

Use the slot count as one line in your decision#

DayZ server slots tell you about the stated number of simultaneous connections, not how much memory a plan includes or how it will perform. maxPlayers controls the configured player count; login-queue values describe waiting and login handling. A provider’s slot allowance, your server settings and its resource allocation should be checked as separate facts.

For small Steam-PC groups, compare your regular roster with the provider’s published recommendations and choose based on the resources and billing terms you can verify. Game Hosting’s DayZ page shows its current memory tiers and player recommendations, with no per-player charge inside a tier. The tier price still changes with memory, and the recommendation is not a capacity guarantee. If you only remember one rule, make it this: count slots for connections, read the plan for resources, and treat the queue as waiting room.

Quick answers

What do DayZ server slots mean?

Slots usually describe how many players may connect at once under that provider plan. They do not state the server’s RAM or CPU allocation.

How many players can a DayZ server hold?

The server configuration includes a maxPlayers setting; Bohemia’s reference example uses 60. The example is not a universal performance guarantee or proof of a hard limit for every setup.

Does a DayZ login queue add more player slots?

No. Queue settings describe players waiting to join and how many are processed concurrently. They do not increase the configured number of players in the world.

Do I pay more for each friend on Game Hosting?

There is no per-player charge within a Game Hosting tier. A larger memory tier has a higher monthly price, and its displayed player count is a recommendation rather than a cap.
