You will need

  • DayZ on PC through Steam
  • Access to your server’s Workshop mod list and mission files
  • The same DayZ branch on your server and each joining client

For a DayZ Expansion server setup on PC through Steam, add the Expansion Bundle and its required Expansion-Licensed mod; Animations is optional. This guide covers the Steam PC server path only. Xbox, PlayStation, and the Microsoft Store or Game Pass PC build are separate versions and cannot join a Steam PC server. You’ll choose the right Expansion parts, match mission files to your terrain, let the first start create settings, and test the result before inviting the group.

Choose the DayZ Expansion parts your server needs#

Start with the Workshop item called DayZ-Expansion-Bundle (2572331007) and add DayZ-Expansion-Licensed (2116157322) as well. Licensed is required because the Bundle page lists it separately. The official Bundle page also lists Community Framework (CF) and Dabs Framework as requirements; the panel can add recognized dependencies for you.

Workshop item ID What to know
DayZ-Expansion-Bundle 2572331007 Main Expansion package; it does not include Licensed or Animations.
DayZ-Expansion-Licensed 2116157322 Required by the Bundle and published separately by the Expansion team.
DayZ-Expansion-Animations 2793893086 Optional package for the additional animation content. Check its current compatibility notes before adding it.

The Bundle’s Workshop page credits the DayZ Expansion team and the contributors shown there. These are community-made mods, not content created by your host. Read the current description and Required items list when you install: Workshop dependencies can change, and a guide written for an older release can miss a new requirement.

If you want the main Expansion content, begin with Bundle and Licensed. Add Animations only when its feature is part of your plan. Fewer moving parts make the first startup easier to diagnose. The DayZ mods guide explains how client-required and server-only packages differ before you build a larger stack.

Add the required mods in a dependency-aware order#

In the DayZ mod manager, add the Bundle by Workshop ID or link, then review the required items it finds before saving. Game Hosting’s current DayZ panel resolves recognized Workshop dependencies, places requirements before the mod that needs them, and fetches the mod files and keys with the service’s Steam account. You do not enter your own Steam login. Custom or unrecognized requirements still need attention from the mod author’s page.

  1. Add the Bundle

Open the server’s DayZ mod manager and search for 2572331007 or paste the Bundle’s Steam Workshop URL. Review the result against the official item page so you do not add a similarly named community package.

  2. Review required items

Check that Licensed, CF, and Dabs Framework appear in the list. Keep the manager’s dependency order for the initial startup; the current panel calculates recognized requirements before dependents. Add Animations separately only if you chose it.

  3. Save and restart once

Save the mod list, wait for the panel’s download or update state to finish, then restart the server. Confirm the list shows the intended items enabled before you change the mission.

For a manual install, check each current Workshop item’s Required items list and the Expansion team’s documentation wiki. An older Steam guide still circulates, but its sample order has not been verified here against DayZ 1.29. Do not copy an old command blindly or treat it as proof that every current build works. Confirm the final mod list and startup log on a test copy first. The general DayZ mod installation guide covers the broader folder, key, and client-sync workflow.

Match Expansion mission files to your map#

Expansion’s mission files are separate from its Workshop packages. Use the Expansion team’s Missions repository and follow its current README tutorial for the template you choose. The repository lists templates for Chernarus and Enoch (Livonia), plus community terrains such as Namalsk, TakistanPlus, and Chiemsee. A matching terrain matters because the mission contains map-specific data.

Terrain you run Template to check in the repository Before importing
Chernarus Chernarus Confirm that the live server is configured for Chernarus.
Livonia Enoch Confirm that the server uses Livonia, not Chernarus.
Namalsk, TakistanPlus, or Chiemsee The matching named folder, if present in the current release Check the terrain mod’s own requirements and author notes too.
Sakhal No Expansion template was listed in the repository on 12 Oct 2026 Do not substitute another map’s template. Players need a purchased copy of Frostline to access Sakhal servers.

The template readme explains which mission XML sections to import. Follow those instructions for the mission you actually use; do not replace its entire directory with files from another map. Before changing a live mission, identify the active mission folder, make a restorable backup, and test the merge on a copy. A wrong-folder replacement can change map data or put the server into a state you cannot easily recover.

The Expansion team maintains the mission repository, while third-party terrain mods remain the work of their own authors. Check both sources when you use a community map. The repository also asks server owners to review settings after Expansion updates, so treat a template as a starting point that needs maintenance rather than a permanent drop-in.

Generate the profile settings on the first start#

After the first successful launch, Expansion creates its settings beneath the server’s active profile directory. The exact absolute path depends on how that server is configured, so use the profile location shown by your host or launch setup instead of copying a path from someone else’s machine. Look for the generated ExpansionMod settings there, then read the current settings documentation before editing a value.

The settings repository describes examples for learning the available options; it is not a ready-made configuration for every server. Keep the files generated by your current Expansion version as your baseline. If an update changes a setting, compare the current author notes and examples, then apply only the change you intend.

Avoid bulk-copying an old settings folder over a live profile. Old values can hide what the current version generated, and a mistaken copy can overwrite settings your server needs. If you are editing mission files as well, back them up separately; a profile backup does not restore mission data.

Test the server and client before inviting the group#

Start the server with the chosen map and Expansion list, then check the current server log for a normal startup before sharing the address. Next, have one Steam PC client use the same DayZ branch and the same client-required Workshop items, then join the server and confirm the selected terrain loads. A successful join is the practical check that the first install is coherent; it does not guarantee that every additional mod is compatible.

  1. Check the server start

Wait for the panel to finish mod downloads and restart the server. Open the latest server log and confirm startup completes without a new mod or mission failure. If it stops, check the Workshop item’s requirements and the mission readme before changing files.

  2. Join with one matching client

Use a PC copy of DayZ on Steam, select the same stable or Experimental branch as the server, and let the launcher load the server’s client-required items. Join once and verify the expected map appears.

  3. Add features one at a time

Keep this known-good baseline. Add a trader, AI, base-building system, or other feature in a separate change, then restart and repeat the join check so you can identify which addition caused a problem.

For a Steam PC group that would rather not maintain Workshop downloads and keys by hand, Game Hosting’s DayZ service has a panel that accepts Workshop search, IDs, links, collections, or a DayZ Launcher preset. It resolves recognized dependencies and downloads mods and keys through the service’s Steam account, so your Steam credentials stay with you. The service is for DayZ on PC through Steam; it will not bridge a console or Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC group into a Steam server.

Measure the workload before changing memory plans#

There is no verified universal RAM minimum for DayZ Expansion. Memory use depends on the map, player activity, and which Expansion features or other mods you run, so a single number without test conditions would mislead you.

Measure your own workload after the first join works. Record the map, mod list, player count, and whether traders, AI, or other active systems are running. Sample the server process’s memory through the operating system or a real host usage view during both quiet time and the busiest part of the same session. Change one feature at a time, then repeat under comparable conditions and compare the observed peak.

Do not size from a fresh, empty server’s idle reading. A busy map and a player group create a different workload. Also keep server performance separate from a player’s graphics FPS: if you have a current server-side metric available, record that metric and the test conditions rather than treating a client number as server evidence. This article does not report a benchmark or promise an FPS result.

Check the DayZ branch before each Expansion update#

As of 12 Oct 2026, the latest stable DayZ release was 1.29 and DayZ 1.30 was on the Steam Experimental branch. The Expansion Bundle’s Experimental item (2540096189) published version 1.9.76 on 11 Oct and explicitly added DayZ 1.30 Experimental compatibility. That Experimental item lists CF, Dabs Framework, and Expansion-Licensed-Experimental (2178159769) as requirements. Those files belong together on the matching Experimental server and clients; they are not a replacement for the stable Bundle and Licensed items.

Bohemia’s official announcement said the 1.30 update and DayZ Badlands expansion, with the Nasdara terrain, were planned for 15 Oct. A planned date is not evidence that the stable Expansion packages support the eventual release. Before updating a live server, recheck the stable Bundle, Licensed, and Animations changelogs, confirm any terrain’s current mission files and player DLC requirements, and test the exact combination on a copy. Keep a backup you can restore before moving the group.

The Experimental Bundle’s current changelog is the source for that compatibility note. For the stable package, use its own changelog and current Required items list instead. If you are not ready to test an update, keep the stable server on its known-good branch until the mod authors confirm the new combination.

Before you invite your friends, check that the intended world loaded and that each player can connect. If those checks pass, you're ready for a session; if you'd rather not keep a PC on, that's what we're here for.

Quick answers

Is Expansion-Licensed required for the Expansion Bundle?

Yes. The Bundle page lists Expansion-Licensed as a required item, and it is a separate Workshop download.

Is Expansion Animations required?

No. Animations is a separate optional package; add it only if you want its additional animation content.

Does DayZ Expansion work on Livonia and Sakhal?

The Expansion mission repository includes an Enoch template for Livonia, but it does not currently list a Sakhal template. Players need the Frostline DLC to join a Sakhal server.

How much RAM does DayZ Expansion need?

There is no verified universal minimum. Measure memory with your chosen map, player count, and Expansion features under a representative workload.
