You will need

  • Current copies of 7 Days to Die for each player
  • The same released game version on every platform
  • A compatible platform pair from the table below

Yes, 7 Days to Die supports crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on a compatible version and world. The 2016 Xbox One and PS4 editions are separate legacy releases, so they cannot join those modern crossplay sessions. Before anyone buys a copy or server, check the platform pair, the exact edition, and the rules that keep console players eligible.

If your group wants a world that stays online when its usual host logs off, our managed hosting recommendation is Game Hosting. Its panel has a console crossplay switch that keeps Easy Anti-Cheat enabled, the server listed, and the player limit at eight; it also switches the integrated War3zuk selection to vanilla. Remove any manually uploaded mod files separately. The switch cannot make an old console edition or an incompatible game version work.

If a provider calls itself an official partner, compare that claim with the wording on The Fun Pimps’ current provider page; its technical crossplay checklist does not promise that every compliant server will appear in console search.

Is 7 Days to Die crossplay between PC, PS5 and Xbox Series?#

Yes. The current release supports the three modern platform pairings below, as long as every player can connect to a compatible session or dedicated server.

Players in the group Crossplay answer Important limit
PC and PS5 Yes Use a released version that both platforms can join.
PC and Xbox Series X|S Yes The Xbox One legacy edition is not the same game.
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Yes The server still has to meet the console rules.
Current PC or console release and 2016 PS4/Xbox One edition No The legacy release cannot join modern crossplay.

The Fun Pimps announced cross-platform play for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and its current dedicated-server requirements explain the conditions for console access. Crossplay means your group can play together in the same live world. It does not mean that every copy of the game, server setting, or modded setup is compatible.

If your pair is one of the supported modern combinations, decide whether you want a player-hosted session or a dedicated server next. If one player owns the 2016 console edition, stop here and check the edition before spending money on a server; a hosting plan cannot bridge the old and current games.

Check the console edition before buying a copy#

The modern console release is for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS4 and Xbox One release came out in 2016 through Telltale Publishing and is a separate game line. The Fun Pimps’ console history explains that the older port stopped receiving development. Its 2016 announcement identifies that release as the Xbox One and PS4 version.

That distinction matters even if someone still owns the old game or can launch it on newer hardware. Running the 2016 edition on a newer console does not turn it into the current PS5 or Xbox Series release. Everyone who wants to join the current PC/console crossplay world needs a copy of the current game for a supported platform.

Before the group commits, compare the platform name shown on each store listing and the version number shown in the game. If a listing or installed copy says Xbox One or PS4, treat it as the legacy edition until the platform store confirms otherwise. Do not buy server time to solve an edition mismatch.

Meet the dedicated-server rules that let consoles join#

A PC player may be able to join a server that console players cannot see. For a dedicated server to accept console clients, crossplay has to be enabled, Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) has to stay on, the slot limit cannot exceed 8, and the server must be public and unmodded. The current official help-center requirements, updated April 21, 2026, also require IgnoreEOSSanctions to be false.

Requirement What to check
Crossplay enabled The dedicated server is configured to admit console clients.
EAC enabled Do not turn off anti-cheat for an overhaul if console players need to join.
8 player slots or fewer Eight is the crossplay ceiling, even if fewer people are online at the moment.
Public listing Console players need a server that appears in the game’s browser.
No mods A console player cannot join a modded server.
EOS sanctions are not ignored The dedicated-server value must be false.

These conditions apply together. A public listing does not make an old edition compatible, and turning on the crossplay switch does not permit an overhaul. Some world settings also have console-compatible limits, so use the current control panel’s warnings instead of pasting an old tutorial’s XML block. Since V3.0, difficulty and many world rules are carried in SandboxCode; individual serverconfig.xml examples from older versions can be stale.

Keep the same released version across the group#

A platform pair can be supported and still fail to connect if a client or server is on a different release. The Fun Pimps announced V3.3.0 Stable on October 5, 2026; the latest experimental post located is V3.3.0 EXP b18 from September 24. SteamDB showed the public, v3.3.0 and latest_experimental branches on the same build when checked October 5. This is a dated snapshot, not a promise that every console build gets an experimental branch.

Before changing a server branch, compare the version displayed by the PC client, each console, and the server. Keep the group on the same released version that all of their platforms support. A Steam player who opts into experimental can move ahead of friends on consoles, so the safer crossplay choice is the shared stable release unless the official patch notes confirm otherwise.

Crossplay is a way to join one multiplayer world; it is not a save-conversion instruction. The developer’s save-file help article, updated April 23, 2026, describes client folders for local data and single-player saves, but it does not document a transfer from the 2016 console edition into the modern game. If keeping a particular solo save is part of the decision, verify that migration path separately before replacing a copy or starting a new world.

Choose a player-hosted session or an always-on server#

A player-hosted world is a reasonable first choice if one person can start the session whenever the group plays. A dedicated server is a separate process that can keep the world running without the usual host staying in the game. Console crossplay does not mean a console runs a dedicated server; it means a console client can join a compatible one.

For a group that needs the world available while its usual host is away, a managed dedicated server removes the need to leave a player’s console or gaming PC running. Game Hosting’s panel places the console crossplay switch alongside the server settings, then enforces EAC, public visibility and the 8-player maximum; it switches the integrated War3zuk selection to vanilla. Check that no manually uploaded mods remain, and keep SandboxCode values within the game’s console-compatible limits. See the 7 Days to Die hosting plans if that always-on setup fits your schedule.

If you are comparing self-hosting with a rented server, start with how to choose a 7 Days to Die host. That guide covers what to check in the plan and the trade-offs of running the world yourself. Neither route fixes the 2016 edition mismatch or makes a modded overhaul crossplay-compatible.

Decide whether mods matter more than console access#

A mixed PC and console group needs an unmodded server with EAC on. If you install an overhaul or other mod that makes the server modded, console players cannot join that world. That includes popular overhauls: verify the current supported game build and EAC requirement with the mod’s author before you set up a PC-only server around it.

If console access is the priority, keep the server vanilla and use the game’s supported settings. If the group would rather play an overhaul, choose the modded route and confirm that every PC player can run the same compatible version. The routes solve different goals; a crossplay toggle cannot make them interchangeable.

For server-side installation steps and the distinction between modlets and client mods, use our 7 Days to Die server mod guide. This page only answers whether your platforms can share a world and what would exclude console clients. It does not install or test a specific mod pack.

Take the next step for your exact platform pair#

If everyone has the modern PC, PS5, or Xbox Series release, crossplay is supported. Before you rent or configure a dedicated server, confirm that your version is shared, the server is public and unmodded, EAC is on, EOS sanctions are not ignored, and the slot count is eight or lower.

For now, the hosting checklist can help you compare the costs and responsibilities without treating every host as the same. If your platform pair is compatible and you are comparing managed plans, use this guide to choose crossplay server hosting. The setup and invitation guides are separate tasks; this page establishes whether your editions and platform pair can play together.

If one person owns the 2016 PS4 or Xbox One edition, pause the server decision. Confirm access to the modern release first; paying for a server does not upgrade an old game copy. This guide does not confirm an old-save transfer route.
