Cheap DayZ server hosting is easiest to compare when every plan is for the same game edition and billing period. This guide covers managed servers for DayZ on Steam for PC; Game Hosting’s DayZ offer is not for Xbox, PlayStation or the Xbox app/Game Pass PC build. Among the 8 GB monthly listings checked on October 13, Kinetic was $7.99, GravelHost was $11.99 and Game Hosting was $16.99. A price page does not tell you how a server will perform, so check the resources, workflow and recovery terms before choosing.

For a group that wants DayZ controls in one panel, we recommend Game Hosting’s DayZ plans: they include a live player map, killfeed, Workshop import with dependency handling, and three backup slots. The 8 GB plan is $16.99 monthly and publishes four CPU threads on a Ryzen 9 9900X. That is a more feature-rich option for a group that values those tools; if your first priority is the lowest listed 8 GB price, Kinetic is cheaper in this comparison. Neither provider page is a performance test.

Compare the same DayZ platform and billing term#

Start by asking every player which version of DayZ they use. This comparison is for a managed Steam PC server. Console editions and the Xbox app version on PC use different server pools, so renting a Steam server will not make those builds cross-play. Bohemia’s DayZ FAQ describes the supported platforms; our DayZ crossplay guide gives the pair-by-pair answer. If your group is not all on Steam PC, resolve that before comparing these products.

Then compare like with like: the same amount of published memory, the same monthly or prepaid term, the same currency and the regular listed price. A coupon, longer prepayment or introductory offer can make a plan look cheaper than its renewal price. For the full recurring bill, including payment cadence and add-ons, see what a DayZ server costs per month. This guide stays with plan fit and the trade-offs behind the advertised monthly price.

Read the resources a budget plan actually publishes#

For the 8 GB monthly examples checked October 13, 2026, the providers list different details:

Provider Listed 8 GB price Published CPU and memory details Other relevant details
Game Hosting $16.99/month Ryzen 9 9900X, 4 threads; 8 GB guaranteed DDR5 Player guidance, DayZ panel tools and three backup slots
Kinetic Hosting $7.99/month Up to Ryzen 9 9950X, 5.7 GHz; 6 CPU threads; 8 GB RAM Five backup slots; says it supports stable and experimental branches
GravelHost $11.99/month 8 GB RAM; DDR4; CPU model not stated on its DayZ page Advertises Workshop/maps, FTP and daily backups

These are the providers’ current public listings, not an independent rating. Check the Game Hosting DayZ plans, Kinetic DayZ page and GravelHost DayZ page again before checkout; prices and included terms can change. Kinetic’s $7.99 8 GB plan is the lowest of these three examples and it publishes six CPU threads. Game Hosting’s plan costs more and lists four. GravelHost publishes its memory and DDR4 but does not name a CPU model on the page. Those details describe disclosure and listed allocation; they do not prove one server will run better than another.

Treat a player-slot count, a player recommendation and a hardware allocation as different facts. Game Hosting describes 10 players as a recommendation for its 8 GB tier, not a cap. The exact workload still matters. If a seller publishes slots but not memory, ask what resources come with that plan. If a seller names a CPU but does not say how much of it the plan receives, ask whether that allocation is shared or capped. If the answer stays vague, that uncertainty is part of the purchase decision.

Bohemia lists 6 GB as a minimum server requirement, not a sizing recommendation for every public group, map or mod collection. Don’t treat that minimum as proof that a cheaper plan is enough—or that it is too small. Verify the provider’s upgrade path against your own setup, and ask how it handles the exact map and mod list you intend to run.

Choose a map and mod workload before choosing a tier#

Write down the map, mods and expected simultaneous players you plan to run. A vanilla Chernarus group is a different workload from a large Workshop collection with extra systems and a custom map. That statement is a reason to ask the host about your plan; it is not a promise that any fixed RAM amount will suit every setup. Our modded DayZ hosting checklist explains what to check when mods are involved.

For each shortlisted host, confirm that the exact map and mod list can be installed, how dependencies and signing keys are handled, and whether the provider’s plan recommendation accounts for that workload. Community maps and Workshop mods belong to their respective creators; check their current compatibility notes and required items rather than assuming the host has tested every combination. Game Hosting’s panel can import Workshop items and manage dependencies and keys, but that does not guarantee that every community mod is compatible with every game update.

Also ask how easy it is to move to a larger plan if your group grows. A low initial price can be sensible when it matches the work you intend to run and there is a clear upgrade path. It becomes a poor fit if you are buying on a player-count label without checking memory, CPU allocation, map support or the cost of changing tiers.

Check update control around DayZ patches#

DayZ updates can affect whether server and client builds match. Bohemia’s server configuration reference documents forceSameBuild, which restricts connections to clients on the same executable revision. That setting explains a version mismatch; it does not show that a particular host automatically updates your server or lets you delay a patch.

Before paying, ask when a host applies game updates, whether a restart is needed, and what choice you have if a Workshop mod needs time to catch up. Kinetic’s current page says you can choose Stable or Experimental and describes updates as applying after restart. Game Hosting documents owner-controlled update timing for DayZ. GravelHost’s page advertises Workshop and map support, but the public listing we checked does not establish its update controls; ask the company before relying on a delay option. Do not assume every “automatic updates” label means the same workflow.

At this check, Bohemia’s 1.30 and Badlands release was scheduled for October 15, two days after this article’s review. A scheduled release date is not evidence that a particular panel can select the update, preserve a custom mission or roll it back. Recheck the official DayZ Steam news and your provider’s instructions on patch day. Avoid changing a live map or mission based on an old guide or an unverified command.

Confirm what backups restore and what they cost#

“Backups included” can refer to different numbers of saved copies, schedules and ways to recover. Check how many restore points are kept, how often they are created, whether you can download a copy, and if the plan charges for more slots. Ask whether a restore can overwrite the current world and what the recovery steps are before you need them.

The three pages compared here publish backup features, so backup presence alone does not separate them. Game Hosting includes three slots with restore, download and locking controls; Kinetic lists five slots and automated backups; GravelHost advertises daily backups and says it retains them for three or more years. These are descriptions from each provider, not a test that a restore succeeds or that data is retained exactly as a customer expects. Check the current backup policy and keep a separate copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

If you are moving an existing server or considering a wipe, first identify the active world and mission files, make a separate backup, and confirm the provider’s restoration process. Do not delete storage or replace a map folder until you know which files the server currently uses and how to recover them. A lower monthly price does not make an unverified recovery plan safe.

Keep your Steam password private#

Workshop support should not require you to send your personal Steam password to a hosting provider. Ask how the server fetches Workshop content and whether its account is managed by the host. Game Hosting uses its own service Steam account for supported DayZ downloads; customers do not supply their login. If another provider requests your password, stop and ask it to explain a safer supported method.

Before installing a collection, check its authors’ pages for dependencies, keys, load order and supported game build. A mod can change independently of the server software, so a host’s general “mod support” statement is not a compatibility guarantee. See the DayZ mod hosting checklist before committing a community to a long-running setup.

Pick the lowest price that meets your checklist#

If lowest listed price is the main constraint, Kinetic is the least expensive 8 GB monthly listing among these three providers as checked October 13, 2026. Its page also publishes six CPU threads and five backup slots. GravelHost costs $11.99 for 8 GB and lists DDR4, Workshop/maps and daily backups; its page does not name the CPU model. Game Hosting costs $16.99 for 8 GB, lists a Ryzen 9 9900X with four threads and guaranteed DDR5, and includes the integrated DayZ tools described above. Recheck checkout and renewal terms before buying.

There is no evidence here that a cheaper price means worse gameplay, or that the most detailed spec page guarantees better performance. The sensible choice is the least expensive current plan whose published resources, map/mod support, update workflow, location and recovery policy fit your requirements. If a critical detail is missing, ask the provider or choose a plan that publishes it. For a wider list of buying criteria beyond price, use the full DayZ host checklist.

FAQ#

What is the cheapest way to host a DayZ server?

Compare regular monthly prices for plans that publish the same memory amount, then check what the plan includes. In the three 8 GB examples checked here, Kinetic listed $7.99, GravelHost $11.99 and Game Hosting $16.99 per month. That is a small sample, not a claim about the cheapest host in the whole market. Compare the full bill and renewal details in our DayZ monthly cost guide.

Is a 10-slot DayZ server enough for a group of friends?

A plan’s slot count is not the same as a player recommendation or a measured performance result. Ask whether the number is a cap, how much memory and CPU allocation comes with the plan, and whether the provider recommends that size for your map and mod list. Then confirm what it costs to upgrade if the group outgrows it.

Does cheap hosting cause lag in DayZ?

Price alone does not show whether a server will lag. Ask about the assigned CPU and memory, compare locations from where your players connect, and look for a comparable performance test that explains its map, player count and mods. A provider’s marketing promise or a processor model by itself is not that test.

Can console players join these Steam PC servers?

No. These Game Hosting plans are for DayZ on Steam for PC. Xbox and PlayStation use their own server pools, and the Xbox app/Game Pass PC edition is not the Steam build. Choose a compatible platform for every player before renting.

Quick answers

What is the cheapest way to host a DayZ server?

Compare the same billing period and the memory and CPU details each provider publishes. In the 8 GB monthly listings checked here, Kinetic was $7.99, GravelHost $11.99 and Game Hosting $16.99. The lowest advertised price does not establish performance or fit for your map and mods.

Is a 10-slot DayZ server enough for a group of friends?

A slot count limits or describes player places, while some plans publish a suggested group size instead. Neither number guarantees how a specific mod list or busy area will run. Match the provider’s terms to your group and ask what happens if you need to upgrade.

Does cheap hosting cause lag in DayZ?

Price alone does not establish whether a server will lag. Compare the resources a provider actually assigns, your group’s route to its location, and the workload you plan to run; look for a comparable test before trusting performance claims.

Can I use these plans for Xbox, PlayStation or PC Game Pass?

No. The Game Hosting plans linked here are for DayZ on Steam for PC. Xbox, PlayStation and the Xbox app or Game Pass PC build use different server pools; choose a host and platform that match your entire group.
