You will need

  • DayZ for PC on Steam
  • The server name or address
  • Approximate time the problem began

If a DayZ server is down, first find out whether the problem affects Bohemia’s official servers, one community server, or only the server you run. That one-minute check keeps you from changing your router or deleting world data to fix an outage you do not control. This guide covers the Steam version of DayZ on PC. Xbox and PlayStation use separate server ecosystems, and the Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC build connects through Xbox rather than Steam; none can join a Steam PC server.

Sort the problem into official, community or your own server#

Use the pattern you can observe to decide who can confirm the next step. It narrows the search; it does not prove the cause by itself.

What you can observe Most likely owner of the next check What to do first
Several official servers or the official list are affected Bohemia Interactive or the game’s PC service Look for a current notice from Bohemia, then compare with a community server you know normally works.
One named community server is missing or unreachable That server’s admin or hosting provider Check its Discord, website or in-game community notice for maintenance, a restart or an update.
Only your own server is unavailable You or the company hosting it Check the server panel or the host machine before changing files or network settings.

If you can join another server on the same platform, the game is not wholly offline for you. That still does not prove the first server is healthy: an admin can pause one community server, a host can be doing maintenance, or that server can have a version or mod issue. If several people on the same platform report the same broad failure, compare their reports with an official notice before treating it as a confirmed outage.

This guide is for PC players on Steam. Game Hosting’s DayZ service also supports Steam PC only. If the problem is that a home PC sleeps, restarts or loses its internet connection, a managed DayZ server in a Dallas data center removes that particular home-network dependency; the service includes DDoS protection, scheduled restarts and free specialized support. It cannot repair an official outage, a client-side problem or a mismatch between a server and player’s build.

Check official DayZ notices without mistaking reports for confirmation#

For a possible official outage, start with DayZ’s official Steam news feed and Bohemia’s DayZ multiplayer support. Steam news is where Bohemia publishes game announcements and update notices. Bohemia’s support FAQ says that if no servers appear on Wednesday, its scheduled maintenance at 08:00 GMT+1 is the likely cause; if the issue continues after maintenance, contact its support team. Check the current notice and convert that time to your local zone. The Steam feed and support page still are not live uptime dashboards for every official server.

Check the date and platform named in any notice. A post about PC maintenance does not describe Xbox or PlayStation service, and an old outage report does not tell you what is happening today. If there is no current notice, say “not confirmed” rather than concluding that Bohemia has no issue. Official notices can lag behind an incident or describe only the affected region or platform.

Outage-report sites and social posts can help you see whether other players are reporting the same symptom. They are signals from users, not Bohemia’s telemetry. A sudden spike may reflect a real problem, a regional connection issue, or people responding to the same rumor; no reports do not prove the servers are healthy either.

Check whether one community admin scheduled the outage#

When just one community server is affected, look for a notice from its admin before changing anything on your PC. Community servers are operated separately, so their restart times, maintenance windows, updates and access rules can differ. Check the server’s own Discord, website, launcher description or message from the admin. If you do not know where it posts updates, ask another regular player whether the server is intentionally offline.

A short restart or planned update can make one server disappear temporarily. Wait for the announced window to end, then check the same server again. If the admin mentions a wipe, map change or update, ask what is changing and whether the world is expected to reset. A reset is not a general fix for a server that will not start.

If there is no notice and the server remains down, send the admin its exact name, the time you last saw it online, your platform and any message the launcher displayed. Those details can tell the owner whether to check a scheduled job, a game update or the server process. Do not delete saved files or tell an admin to wipe the world just because the server is missing; the right files and recovery steps depend on that server’s setup.

If the question is whether a reset was announced or what it affects, our guide to DayZ official wipes and community resets separates publisher updates from choices made by a community admin. It is a different question from whether a server process is reachable.

Trace a failure on your own server without wiping storage#

If you own the server, check the place that runs it. For a rented server, open the provider’s panel and look at its current status and the latest event or log message. A stopped process, a queued update and a server that is still starting call for different support. For a home server, confirm the host PC is awake, the DayZ server process is running and the home internet connection is working for other devices. Avoid changing several things at once; record what you observed first.

Where your server runs First safe checks When to contact support
Game server provider Current panel status, recent restart/update event and provider notice The panel reports an error, the process will not stay running, or you cannot identify the last event
Your own PC PC awake, server process present, home internet working and recent Windows or game update The process exits, the connection drops, or the machine is healthy but players still cannot reach the server

If the same home PC or router problem keeps taking your server offline, managed hosting is a practical way to stop depending on that equipment being awake and connected. Game Hosting’s DayZ server hosting is for the Steam PC version and runs in Dallas; its documented service includes DDoS protection, scheduled restarts and free specialized support. That helps with the home-computer branch only. It does not make a client or community server compatible, fix a Bohemia outage, or guarantee zero downtime.

If you are comparing managed options with running the machine yourself, use our DayZ hosting checklist to compare platform, updates, mods and backup recovery.

Before a provider or admin asks you to restore, move or wipe storage, identify the exact server instance and files, confirm a recent backup, and understand how to restore it. A server-down report alone is not a reason to delete persistence. If the failure began after a map or update change, pause destructive edits until the owner can confirm the backup and recovery path.

Route version, browser and mod symptoms to the specific fix#

“Down” is sometimes shorthand for “I cannot find or join it.” Match the symptom before you start troubleshooting:

Symptom Next check
The server is running but missing from the browser Confirm the right platform and browser filters, then use Bohemia’s multiplayer help.
The server appears but reports a different version Compare the client and server build, then check the current official DayZ announcements. Stable and Experimental are different branches; do not compare a test build with a server on Stable.
You are kicked after the server begins loading its mods Check the server’s published mod list and follow our DayZ mods guide for the Workshop, dependencies and keys.
The admin says the server is restarting or wiping Ask whether this is scheduled and what is affected; see how DayZ wipes work before making assumptions about a character or world reset.
The server works for the admin but not for you Record your platform and the exact join message; follow the platform-specific support route rather than asking for a server wipe.

As of October 7, 2026, Bohemia’s latest Stable notice in the official news feed is 1.29 Road to Badlands (July 15), while its September 16 post says 1.30 has entered Experimental. The feed also lists DayZ Badlands, set in Nasdara, for October 15; that announcement is not evidence that a particular server is offline. These are dated release notes, not a promise about which build you should see when you read this. Recheck the feed and ask the community admin which branch the server runs. If the builds differ, use the current client/server version guidance; do not try to fix a version mismatch by deleting world storage.

This guide is intentionally a router, not a full repair walkthrough. The published DayZ mods reference covers mod setup, and the wipe guide covers reset decisions. More specific browser, build and crash-log guides should answer those separate tasks as they are published.

Collect a useful report before asking for help#

A support request is easier to answer when it says what failed, where and when. Write down these details before restarting the server again:

  1. The exact server name or address and whether it is official, community, rented or self-hosted.
  2. Your platform and game build. For a community server, ask which build or branch it runs.
  3. The approximate time the problem began, including your time zone, and whether other players saw it too.
  4. What changed shortly before the problem: a server restart, game update, mod update, map change or home-router/PC restart.
  5. The exact launcher message. If you administer the server, include only the latest relevant log lines you are allowed to share; do not post passwords, account details or private connection data.

If the server is provider-hosted, include the provider’s current panel status and any event or error it shows. If it is self-hosted, say whether the PC and internet connection stayed up. The admin can then separate a server-process failure from a broader service issue or a player-side join problem. For help interpreting crash logs, use a dedicated log guide when available rather than guessing from one line.

A report that only says “DayZ is down” leaves out the platform, server and time needed to verify it. Start with the three-way check, share the useful details with the person who controls that server, and avoid irreversible changes until the owner knows exactly what needs recovery.

Quick answers

How long do DayZ servers go down for?

There is no one duration for every server. Check an official maintenance notice for Bohemia-run servers, or ask the community server admin about that server’s restart or maintenance window.

Why are no servers showing up on DayZ?

A missing list can be a browser or connection problem, not proof that every server is offline. Check the current filters and follow Bohemia’s multiplayer troubleshooting guidance.

Is DayZ offline right now, or is it just my server?

Compare what you see on official servers with one known community server, then check official notices. Crowd reports can suggest a wider issue, but they do not confirm Bohemia’s server status.

Can console players join a Steam PC DayZ server?

No. Steam PC servers are separate from Xbox and PlayStation server ecosystems, and the Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC build uses Xbox servers rather than Steam servers. Bohemia’s [Xbox 1.29 update notes](https://forums.dayz.com/topic/266380-xbox-update-129/) identify that as a separate build. Game Hosting’s DayZ service is for Steam PC only.
