DayZ Wipe: Official Schedule and Community Resets Explained
DayZ has no fixed official wipe calendar. See what Bohemia announced for 1.26–1.30 and who controls resets on community servers.
You will need
- DayZ and the platform you play on
- The community server name and map, if you are checking an owner’s wipe notice
- A verified backup and restore option before resetting a server you manage
DayZ has no fixed official wipe schedule: Bohemia announces resets case by case, while community-server owners choose their own timing. A wipe can affect the world, characters, or both, so the word alone does not tell you what your group will lose. This guide separates the recent official announcements, gives the current 1.30 status as of October 9, 2026, and shows what to confirm before a private server reset.
Check whether Bohemia announced an official wipe#
There is no public recurring DayZ wipe calendar you can use to predict the next reset. Bohemia has announced wipes alongside particular updates, but it has also said it does not wipe with every update. Check the official DayZ news feed for a specific wipe notice tied to a version; a forum post that guesses a date or repeats a community server’s cadence is not an official schedule.
That distinction matters when a new update enters Experimental. An Experimental test build is not itself proof that stable official servers, let alone every community server, will be wiped. Look for the announcement to say which servers, maps, and player data are affected. The official 1.13 wipe notice says the planned reset was for official servers and explicitly left community wipe decisions to their owners. Its statement that wipes would not happen with every update is a useful warning against treating an old pattern as a timetable.
For the live status, start at Bohemia’s DayZ announcements and read the notice itself. If it names only official servers, do not assume it applies to your private world.
Compare what the recent official wipes reset#
Recent announcements show why you should read the scope instead of treating every “wipe” as the same event.
| Update or event | Official announcement | What it said would reset |
|---|---|---|
| 1.26 with Frostline, October 15, 2024 | Bohemia announced changes on both existing terrains | The maps were to be wiped; characters and the loot carried by them were safe. |
| 1.27, February 25, 2025 | Stable release notice | A full wipe across all platforms, maps, and characters. |
| 1.29, April 8, 2026 | Bohemia announced the wipe ahead of stable release | A full wipe would be deployed when stable went live. |
The 1.26 announcement distinguishes the map reset from characters and carried inventory. For 1.27, the stable release notice says all maps and characters were included. For 1.29, the February status report announced a full wipe with stable, which was released April 8.
These are dated examples, not evidence of a repeat interval. They also refer to Bohemia’s official wipe announcements; a community owner still needs to publish the scope for their own server.
Check the 1.30 wipe status before you plan a reset#
As of October 9, 2026, Bohemia had not announced a wipe for the 1.30 stable release in the official notices checked for this guide. Update 1.30 entered Steam Experimental on September 16, and Bohemia listed October 15 as the planned release date for 1.30 and DayZ Badlands. That release date is in the future as of this article’s check; it is not a confirmed wipe date.
The date-stamped DayZ Badlands server-owner update tracks expansion facts and unresolved access questions. Do not turn an Experimental reset, a community server’s schedule, or a prediction in a news article into a confirmed stable-server wipe. Bohemia’s 1.30 Experimental announcement describes the test release, while its later official news archive lists the October 2 Badlands update without announcing a stable wipe. Check the announcement feed again before telling your group to expect a reset; update plans can change.
For an owner preparing the update without assuming a wipe, the DayZ 1.30 server checklist covers the release-note, mod, and backup checks to make before changing a live instance.
If Bohemia later announces a wipe, read whether it includes all maps and characters or only specified data. Until then, the accurate answer to “when is the next DayZ wipe?” is that no 1.30 stable wipe had been announced as of October 9.
Ask the community server owner who controls its wipe#
A community server does not inherit a wipe date just because Bohemia wipes official servers. The owner or admin decides whether and when to reset that community world, then should tell players what will change. Bohemia’s older official wipe notice makes the distinction directly: the announced 1.13 reset applied to official servers, while community owners could wipe at their discretion.
Before you invest another evening in a base, check the server’s own Discord, website, or in-game message for four things: the date and time with a time zone, the map being reset, whether characters are affected, and whether the admin plans to keep any data. If the notice only says “wipe,” ask for those details. Two servers can use the same update and make different choices.
A private server can also set its own cadence for community reasons, such as beginning a fresh season or changing its rules. There is no verified universal interval for those choices. Treat “every month” or “every few weeks” as that server’s policy only when its admin confirms it, not as a DayZ-wide rule.
Identify what “full wipe” means for your map and characters#
A “full wipe” is not a precise list of files or player data by itself. In official announcements, the scope varies: the Frostline-era notice named maps while protecting characters and carried items, whereas 1.27 explicitly named every map and characters. A community admin might choose a narrower reset, so ask whether the world, characters, inventory, bases, vehicles, or loot will be cleared.
For one current managed PC/Steam example, Game Hosting’s DayZ panel separates a whole-map wipe from a character reset. The character-only option leaves bases and loot in place; the whole-map option starts that map fresh. Both require the server to be stopped, and the panel sets the prior world or characters aside until the next wipe. This temporary rollback is not a permanent backup. If that workflow fits your group, Game Hosting’s DayZ service includes the map and character controls; confirm the scope shown in the panel before accepting a reset.
This is a PC server for the Steam version of DayZ. It does not host Xbox, PlayStation, or the Microsoft Store/Game Pass PC build. A wipe tool cannot make a server compatible with another platform.
Back up the world before you reset anything#
Before a wipe, confirm the server, map, reset scope, and recovery copy. A backup should be separate from the temporary copy made by a wipe tool, and you should know which restore action returns it. Keep the server stopped if the owner’s documented process requires that; do not guess at a folder or delete storage_<instanceId> by name alone. Bohemia documents that instanceId identifies an instance’s persistence folder and that -storage= can set a custom storage root, so there is no universal absolute path to copy from a guide.
For groups that want those chores in one place, Game Hosting provides three free backup slots with manual or scheduled backups, plus restore, download, and lock controls. That applies to its Steam-PC DayZ servers. Make the backup before using the panel’s map or character reset; the wipe’s temporary old copy lasts only until another wipe. For a general restore procedure, follow the hosting company’s instructions rather than improvising from an assumed path.
A self-hosted admin should use the server’s actual startup settings and map configuration to identify the target, then follow a recovery procedure verified for that setup. If you cannot verify both the target and restore path, pause before resetting. Do not treat a successful server restart as proof that the old save can be recovered.
Choose a wipe date your players can plan around#
There is no official community-server wipe cadence to copy. Choose a date only when you have a clear reason and enough time to back up, announce the scope, and answer questions. If your group wants to preserve characters or carried gear, say that explicitly; if the map itself is starting over, spell out what happens to bases, vehicles, and stashes.
Post the time with a time zone and repeat it through the channels players actually read. Give newcomers a chance to see the notice before they invest in the current world. If a game update is the reason, wait for the official server build and your own host’s update instructions rather than wiping just because Experimental is available.
After the restart, check that the expected map starts and the intended data changed. Ask a player to confirm their character and inventory when those should remain, and check a familiar location if you expected the world to reset. If something is wrong, stop making further changes and use the verified backup path. A second wipe can replace a temporary rollback copy, so repeating the button is a poor recovery plan.
If you are still comparing provider policies, the DayZ host checklist covers backup and update questions to ask before you commit a long-running world.
