You will need

  • A separate copy of the current world files before any transfer
  • The Valheim version and platform each friend uses
  • The names and versions of any mods your group needs

Apex Hosting Valheim server hosting is listed in 2, 4 and 8 GB monthly plans, with renewal prices of $7.99, $14.99 and $27.99. The public order page also showed a first-order discount: for the 8 GB plan, $20.99 was due before tax, followed by $27.99 each month. That is an offer snapshot from October 1, 2026, not a performance test. Before you move a world, check the exact location, save export, backup restoration and mod versions your crew needs.

Check Apex Hosting Valheim server hosting costs#

Apex’s Valheim pricing page lists three standard monthly memory tiers. For a crew comparing the 8 GB monthly renewal and a documented way to protect its world, we recommend Game Hosting for Valheim: its 8 GB plan is $21.99 per month, $6 below Apex’s $27.99 recurring price, and publishes a four-thread limit, an integrated game panel and three backup slots with restore, download and lock controls. This matches listed memory and billing cadence only; it is not proof of better performance. On October 1, 2026, Apex showed a first-month amount and a separate recurring charge for each tier:

Listed memory First month shown Recurring monthly price Apex’s plan label
2 GB $5.99 $7.99 Basic; some modpacks; marked minimum for Valheim
4 GB $11.24 $14.99 Basic; some modpacks
8 GB $20.99 $27.99 Advanced; “all modpacks”

The Valheim page displayed a 25% off first order banner. In the 8 GB order configuration, the code APEX25 reduced the listed $27.99 to $20.99 due today. The monthly renewal remained $27.99. That checkout did not show a tax-inclusive total before billing details, so treat $20.99 as the pre-tax amount displayed for the selected plan and location. Promotions and eligibility can change; confirm the offer in the order summary before relying on it.

Apex describes 2 GB as the minimum and 8 GB as appropriate for advanced servers and all modpacks. That is its tier wording, not a universal Valheim requirement or a guarantee for every mod combination. Your world, concurrent players, mods and explored map matter. Compare the current offer to your actual crew rather than picking a plan because its label sounds broad.

Compare the recurring 8 GB monthly plans before the promo#

The comparison below pairs the published 8 GB monthly renewal amounts. Apex’s 8 GB first order was $20.99 before tax with the displayed promotion, so the recurring difference should not hide the introductory price. The memory and billing cadence match; CPU allocation and location do not.

Published 8 GB plan Monthly charge after first order First order shown October 1 CPU allocation stated on current offer Location choice shown
Game Hosting $21.99 $21.99 monthly AMD Ryzen 9 9900X; 4 CPU threads per server plan Dallas, Texas
Apex Hosting $27.99 $20.99 before tax with APEX25 Apex describes its standard Ryzen servers as shared; dedicated 4 vCores are on a separate 16 GB EX plan 13 locations selectable in the order picker; Frankfurt marked out of stock

At 4 GB, Game Hosting lists $11.99 a month against Apex’s $14.99 renewal. The difference in this 8 GB comparison is the recurring 8 GB charge and what each page says about CPU access. Game Hosting publishes its per-plan thread limit; Apex calls its standard Ryzen allocation shared and reserves dedicated vCores for a different 16 GB tier. That tells you what is disclosed on the plan pages, not how either host performs in a Valheim session.

Apex has a wider list of server locations in the order screen, while Game Hosting’s Valheim servers are in Dallas, Texas. Compare the route your players can select, and do not turn a list of cities or a “low latency” claim into a ping result.

Method: Game Hosting publishes this comparison. We checked the current Valheim plan pages and Apex’s pre-payment order flow on October 1, 2026; we did not buy either plan, access Apex’s server panel, benchmark performance or restore a world.

Choose a Valheim server region before ordering#

The Apex order picker showed 14 Valheim locations when opened in USD on October 1. Thirteen were selectable; Frankfurt was marked “Out of Stock.” The listed options were:

Region Locations shown
Asia Mumbai, Tel Aviv, Singapore, Tokyo
North America Dallas, San José, Miami, New York, Vint Hill
South America São Paulo
Europe Amsterdam, London; Frankfurt was out of stock
Oceania Sydney

The selector included a “Test Ping” link beside each location, but this review did not run it. Use the option with the most suitable route for your players, then test their actual connection after the world starts. A menu entry can confirm that a location was selectable at the time checked; it cannot promise a stable in-game latency or prove the location will remain in stock.

Game Hosting’s Valheim servers are in Dallas, Texas. If Dallas works for everyone, compare the 8 GB renewal, the control panel, backup workflow and exact game-version requirements instead of assuming that more locations means better play.

Protect your world before uploading it#

Apex’s current Valheim upload guide documents an FTP workflow: stop the server, upload the save under worlds_local, choose the uploaded world name in the panel, restart and join to confirm the server loaded it. Make a separate local copy before changing a save, especially when you are moving a world created before Valheim 1.0.

  1. Keep an untouched copy

Copy the full current save folder to a location your crew controls. Do this before converting an older world or uploading anything. Valheim’s 1.0 FAQ warns that moving an older cloud save to local storage changes it for the 1.0 save system.

  2. Match the save name and files

In the current local save view, note the exact world name and keep the paired .db and .fwl files together. Include the .fwl.old and timestamped backup files that belong to that world when they are present.

  3. Upload while the server is stopped

The provider’s documented path is File Management, then FTP File Access, then the worlds_local directory. Upload the complete world folder and wait for the transfer to finish before selecting it.

  4. Select the world and verify a join

Choose Change World, enter the exact save name, restart when prompted and join the server. Check the expected base and nearby landmarks before inviting the whole crew.

The official Valheim 1.0 FAQ explains the 1.0 save transition. For a pre-1.0 world, load it and save it, move it to local storage, and preserve another copy first: Apex’s upload instructions say this conversion cannot be reversed. Do not let an upload guide substitute for a tested restore. It explains the published steps, not whether this particular world will load with your mods and current server version.

Separate automatic backups from a tested restore#

For a general checklist to use during any provider test window, see what to check in a Valheim server free trial.

Apex advertises automatic Valheim backups and its file guides describe downloading world files through FTP. The current public Valheim material reviewed here did not specify the backup schedule, retention period, off-server status or exact restore controls. That means the details need confirmation; it does not establish that Apex lacks them.

Before moving an established world, ask which files each backup contains, how long the copies are retained, whether you can download one yourself and how you restore it. If a restore is available, ask whether it replaces the active world and what happens to progress saved afterward. Save an export outside the provider before testing.

Game Hosting includes three backup slots with scheduling, restore, download and lock controls. That is a documented workflow, not a claim that anyone has performed a restore on your behalf. If the Apex restore steps are clearer or the retained history is longer for your needs, compare those exact terms; don’t compare “automatic” with “three slots” as though they were the same unit.

Verify crossplay and the exact mod versions#

Valheim’s dedicated-server manual separates its Steam backend from the -crossplay relay. The Steam backend uses UDP ports 2456–2457 by default. Crossplay routes through PlayFab and does not require router port forwarding. Crossplay is a game feature, not proof that a specific mod, game build and platform combination will work together.

Setup What the official manual says What to check for your group
Steam backend Steam players connect through the Steam networking path; default ports are 2456–2457 Confirm the server and Steam clients are on compatible builds and use the connection details the server provides
Crossplay backend -crossplay uses the relay and removes the need for router port forwarding Confirm each player’s current game version, platform and the server’s displayed join method

Apex publishes a Valheim BepInEx workflow that places plugins and configuration files in their respective folders, and says clients also need the matching mod setup. That helps identify the documented install path. It is not a blanket compatibility guarantee. Iron Gate says in its mod support policy that mods are community made and are not officially supported. Before migrating a modded world, write down the mod loader version, each plugin version, dependencies and which clients need them. Ask the host to confirm the server build and install route for that exact list.

Compare support and refund terms without guessing#

Apex’s Valheim page advertises live chat and ticket support. Its pre-payment order flow listed optional Premium Support for $4.99 per month, describing priority troubleshooting, plugin error repairs/configuration and map help. The exact scope that applies to a Valheim issue should be confirmed before paying for the add-on. Game Hosting includes support from human game specialists, with replies within 24 hours. These are different support arrangements, not a response-time contest.

Apex’s current terms say a refund request must be made within seven days of server creation in its database and requires “probable cause.” The countdown is not necessarily the moment the payment clears. Read the current terms and keep the request path in mind; a 7-day window with that condition is not the same as a no-questions trial. The order page also shows optional features separately, so check the summary for add-ons before accepting a charge.

If you need help setting up a particular mod or restoring a named world, ask about that task directly. A live-chat option does not by itself answer which mod builds, restore points or migration steps the support team will handle for your server.

Rate performance only with your own workload#

This review cannot rate Apex’s Valheim performance without a server, a representative crew and a recorded test. Its product page’s “lag-free” copy is marketing language, not a benchmark. Use a trial you choose to run to evaluate the world your friends will actually play:

  • Record the game build, platform, location, plan size and mod versions.
  • Join from the platforms and regions your group uses.
  • Test during your normal busiest session, with the usual number of players in your explored areas.
  • Check whether the world saves, restarts and reconnects as expected; compare the experience from each player’s location.
  • Keep a separate world copy and note the exact date and issue before contacting support.

Valheim allows up to ten players in multiplayer, but that limit does not tell you how a particular plan will handle your world. A single-player join or brief empty-server check is not a stress test. If Apex’s refund terms matter to your decision, check their current conditions before paying and do not assume an unsuccessful performance test alone qualifies for a refund.

If you are still comparing how much memory your group needs, the Valheim hosting buyer guide helps turn your player count, platform mix, recovery needs and budget into requirements. The broader Valheim host comparison uses dated offers and keeps unknown performance claims unscored. Running your own dedicated server is also reasonable if you want to keep the machine and handle updates, access and backups yourself.

Quick answers

Which host is best for Valheim server hosting?

There is no single best host for every crew. Compare the renewal cost, region, world export and restore process, then test your own player and mod setup.

How much RAM do I need for an Apex Valheim server?

Apex labels 2 GB as its minimum, 4 GB for basic servers and some modpacks, and 8 GB for advanced servers and all modpacks. Those are plan descriptions, not a performance guarantee for your world.

What world access should I confirm before transfer?

Confirm that you can download a complete world copy, identify the matching save files, restore a named backup and join the new server before relying on the move.

Can this review rate performance without renting a server?

No. It compares published offers and terms; a performance rating requires a test with the crew’s version, location, mods and busiest session.
