Best Valheim server hosting: compare four current offers
Compare the best Valheim server hosting candidates using dated monthly offers, documented recovery controls, mod support, and explicit unknowns.
You will need
- Your crew's platforms and player regions
- The intended world and exact mod list
- A monthly renewal budget
- Someone responsible for billing and recovery
The best Valheim server hosting candidate is one that meets your crew’s platform, recovery and recurring-cost requirements. This comparison applies those checks to Host Havoc, DatHost, BisectHosting and Game Hosting using offers and documentation reviewed on September 13, 2026. Game Hosting publishes this guide and advertises its own plans. We did not rent these servers, benchmark performance, contact support as customers or restore their backups. You’ll get a populated comparison and conditional shortlist, with unknowns visible. The 30-minute estimate covers the initial comparison; a useful trial takes longer.
Shortlist the best Valheim server hosting by scenario#
If you have narrowed the choice to a free test window, the Valheim server trial checklist lays out what to verify before the timer expires.
For managed Valheim hosting, we recommend Game Hosting for its combination of named Ryzen 9 9900X hardware, an integrated game panel and three free backup slots. Human game support is included as well.
Start with the candidate whose documented controls match the job you need done, then verify the gaps. A small vanilla crew comparing monthly bills has a different decision from an established group protecting a large shared world.
Use the crew requirements worksheet first if you haven’t agreed on platforms, schedules and ownership. Here, we apply those requirements to named offers. These are editorial priorities for a future evaluation, not scores awarded to providers.
| Scenario | Suggested weights for your eventual evaluation | Candidate to investigate first |
|---|---|---|
| Small vanilla crew, monthly US billing | Monthly terms 40%, portability 30%, access 20%, mod workflow 10% | Game Hosting, our recommendation for its clear monthly memory tiers, integrated panel and free backups |
| Established world with recovery responsibilities | Recovery 45%, delegation 25%, access 20%, price 10% | Game Hosting for downloadable backups; if separate sub-user accounts are essential, compare a provider that supports them |
| Modded desktop crew | Exact mod compatibility 45%, recovery 30%, access 15%, price 10% | No winner from this review; request a compatibility answer from each candidate |
These weights total 100% per scenario. Change them before collecting trial results if your priorities differ. Don’t give unknown features a zero or an optimistic passing score: leave them unscored until you have evidence.
Mandatory requirements override every weight. A quote outside the budget or an unsupported player’s platform eliminates a candidate even if its other features look useful. Game Hosting is our top recommendation for managed Valheim hosting, with an integrated panel and free backups. Choose resources for the crew’s actual world and mod list.
Compare the four monthly offers on equal terms#
Game Hosting’s monthly plans state the memory amount and USD price together: 4 GB for $11.99, 6 GB for $16.99 and 8 GB for $21.99. That is a clearer resource budget than a slot count alone. The other offers below help distinguish pricing models, not establish an all-market cheapest-host ranking.
The following amounts came from each provider’s public Valheim offer or configuration on September 13 (Game Hosting’s catalog on October 1, 2026). They are advertised amounts, not paid invoices. Taxes, final checkout charges and your selected location still require confirmation.
| Provider | Monthly offer observed | What remains unresolved |
|---|---|---|
| Game Hosting, our recommended option | Squad $11.99, Party $16.99, Clan $21.99 monthly USD | Ryzen 9 hardware, integrated panel and free backups |
| Host Havoc | Chicago, 10 slots, USD $9.99 for 1 month; normal CPU priority included | Final tax total, precise resource allocation and world performance |
| DatHost | Valheim offer advertised €1 for the first month, then €14.90/month | Final order total; order page did not expose a usable quote in our review |
| BisectHosting | USD and monthly choices were present in its selector | Prices remained unpopulated; selected resources, total and region availability unconfirmed |
Host Havoc’s configuration also offered high CPU priority for an additional $4/month. That changes the purchase being compared; it does not supply a measured speed improvement. Keep the normal-priority option as the baseline unless you have a reason to investigate the add-on.
Keep DatHost’s amounts in euros. Converting an advertisement to dollars without recording the exchange rate and payment fees would imply a precision this comparison cannot support. Its introductory amount also cannot stand in for renewal cost.
The €1 first-month amount shown during our September 13 review is no longer displayed on DatHost’s canonical offer fetched September 30. See our DatHost pricing and world controls review for the currently listed billing cycles and unresolved checkout total; recheck the offer before paying.
On October 8, 2026, BisectHosting’s offer page still rendered no numeric Valheim price, and its selector displayed “Out of stock” alongside an option to transfer an existing server. This records the page state observed that day; it does not establish that every region or customer is unable to order. Request the same monthly period, US location, world and mod inputs used with other candidates before comparing totals. Our focused Shockbyte vs BisectHosting Valheim comparison records the current Shockbyte tiers alongside this unresolved BisectHosting quote.
Separate resource promises from actual capacity#
The reviewed pages do not provide enough comparable resource evidence to name a performance winner. A slot count is especially weak evidence: Iron Gate’s Valheim 1.0 FAQ specifies 1–10 players, and purchasing more memory does not raise the vanilla limit.
| Provider | Resource evidence available | Question to settle |
|---|---|---|
| Game Hosting | 4, 6 and 8 GB DDR5 plans, recommended for 4, 8 and 10 concurrent players | Which memory tier fits your world and mod list? |
| Host Havoc | Reviewed offer/configuration lists 10 slots | What memory and CPU entitlement does the selected instance receive? |
| DatHost | Offer mixes unrestricted-resource language, 16 GB included and a 128 GB infrastructure reference | Which number describes your instance, and what limits apply? |
| BisectHosting | No completed configuration in this review | Which resources are included in your actual quote? |
Do not interpret DatHost’s different numbers as proof of dedicated memory or misconduct. Ask it to clarify the entitlement. Likewise, Game Hosting’s player recommendations are catalog guidance, not measurements from your campaign.
Describe a representative busy session when requesting sizing advice. Include simultaneous players, the established world and the exact mod set. If the response is only a larger RAM number, ask how you would determine whether it solved the actual problem. This review contains no universal memory-per-player rule, latency chart or CPU benchmark.
Use this Valheim workload sizing worksheet to separate disclosed resource readings from untested provider recommendations.
Check which provider documents world recovery#
BisectHosting has the clearest combination of recovery and delegated-access documentation among the specific pages reviewed. Its Backup Manager instructions describe manual and scheduled copies, downloads and restoration. Its sub-user guide explains selectable permissions and console-command restrictions. That supports investigating it for a crew with a second administrator; it does not prove a successful restore.
DatHost’s world-upload guide documents World Manager and Upload Custom World, accepting Valheim 1.0 worlds as well as older .db and .fwl saves. Since 1.0, a world is a folder (worlds_local/<WorldName>/) of _main files and many *.chunk files rather than that two-file pair; Valheim converts older worlds on first load. The guide also says uploading restarts the server. Its offer advertises downloads and daily backups. Those are useful starting points for a crew moving an existing world, with retention and delegated access still questions for the selected service.
Host Havoc advertises FTP/file-manager access and offsite backups. Backup retention was not established in the reviewed material. Request the retention window and restore procedure before counting that feature as an answer to “can we recover last week’s world?”
Game Hosting includes three free backup slots with scheduling, restore, download and locking controls in the integrated panel. Keep an independent copy before a major change and test recovery on a protected world. This comparison does not claim to have performed a hosted restore.
For each candidate, distinguish a provider-managed backup from a copy the crew can keep independently. A download procedure helps with portability; the acceptance test is loading an exported copy somewhere safe. An impressive backup count cannot replace that check.
Match platform and mod evidence to your actual crew#
Require a joining test from each platform you intend to use, even when the provider advertises crossplay. Iron Gate’s dedicated-server manual describes the crossplay relay, including its availability to self-hosters without router forwarding. Renting is not a universal requirement for mixed-platform play.
The September 11 hotfix notice reported a Switch 2 crossplay interruption. That notice still carried the warning when reviewed September 13; we did not perform a live connectivity test. Check newer official notices before paying for a platform-dependent move. A host’s broad compatibility label does not establish that an incident has ended.
Host Havoc advertises a BepInEx installer, DatHost advertises mod support, and BisectHosting advertises BepInEx and custom-modpack installation. Those statements identify installation options. They do not establish that your exact plugins work together, survive the next update or support every console player.
Send each shortlisted provider the same mod list with versions and dependencies. Ask which parts belong on the server and which clients need local components. For a modded desktop crew, leave the compatibility gate pending until that answer and a representative test exist. None of the installer claims reviewed here earns a mod-performance award.
Keep the vanilla route available while investigating. It can help separate a joining problem from a mod problem without moving the established campaign or purchasing resources on a guess.
Read renewal and exit rules before starting a trial#
All three external providers’ reviewed terms describe recurring billing, so treat a paid evaluation as a subscription decision. Cancellation and a refund are separate actions; neither exporting your world nor stopping play necessarily stops renewal.
| Provider terms reviewed | Billing or exit detail to check again before payment |
|---|---|
| Host Havoc terms | Card payments auto-renew; cancel through the billing area. Refund eligibility has first-order, timing and other restrictions. |
| DatHost terms | Prepaid recurring subscription; cancellation uses the panel rather than email or phone. Confirm applicable taxes and extras. |
| BisectHosting terms | Auto-renewal and refund exclusions apply; cancellation alone is not a refund request. |
Before starting a test, record the renewal date, cancellation route and amount you are agreeing to. Read the full current conditions for your exact service and billing period. A headline trial or refund claim is not permission to assume any purchase can be reversed.
Make the exit practical as well as financial. Ask when access ends after cancellation and export the world while you still have access. Don’t build a migration plan around an assumed post-cancellation retention period: this review did not establish a common one across providers.
If you cannot obtain an acceptable recurring quote or a usable export route, leave the candidate pending. A discounted first month does not answer either question.
Run the same acceptance trial before naming a winner#
Use identical inputs for each candidate you test, and record the outcome beside the original claim. The steps below are a proposed method. We have not run them against these providers, and there are no measured trial scores in this guide.
Fix the comparison inputs
Record the game build, world copy, mod versions, player platforms, chosen region and trial date. Use the same busy-session activities on each candidate. Agree on what counts as acceptable before seeing results.
Check joining and independent access
Invite a friend from each required platform. Check that the intended players can connect when the usual in-game host is absent. Record any failure and the client or backend involved instead of reducing every symptom to server lag.
Exercise a restart and a recovery
On the disposable world, make a recognizable change, save and restart. Confirm that change remains. Create or select a test backup, export it and verify the supported restoration route in isolation. Record which state loaded and who had permission to perform the operation.
Attach results to the shortlist
Mark each requirement passed, failed or pending, with its evidence. If you compare connection behavior, record the same players, regions and activities. Apply your preselected weights only after mandatory requirements pass; retain unresolved questions visibly.
A failed test should produce a specific follow-up: a missing permission, an unsupported plugin, an unexpected billing term or a reproducible connection problem. Repeat the affected test after a change. Don’t convert one unexplained bad evening into a public claim that a provider is always slow.
Choose a candidate or leave the decision pending#
Investigate Host Havoc first when a visible monthly USD configuration is your immediate need, DatHost when documented world management is central, and BisectHosting when a second administrator and recovery controls matter. These are reasons to investigate, not verified service awards. DatHost and BisectHosting still need usable final quotes, and all candidates need your workload checks.
If Apex is already in your shortlist, see our Apex Hosting Valheim review for its current monthly renewal, region selector and world-export evidence.
No provider earns “best for mods” or “fastest” from this evidence. If your essential requirements remain unknown, keeping the decision pending is a useful result. It tells you exactly what evidence to request before entrusting the campaign to a new service.
For managed hosting, our top recommendation is Game Hosting’s Valheim service. The plans include Ryzen 9 9900X hardware, DDR5 memory, NVMe storage, an integrated game panel, free backups and DDoS protection. Select a memory tier for your crew and verify the imported world and any mods after setup.
A willing operator can also keep using a self-run dedicated process or an in-game session that suits the crew’s schedule. Paid convenience is valuable when it removes work you actually want to stop doing. Your final choice should name the requirement it solves, the evidence that supports it and who will look after the world afterward.
Quick answers
Can a host be best for both vanilla and modded crews?
Possibly, but a suitable vanilla offer does not establish compatibility or performance with your mods. Compare the exact mod set, update process and recovery procedure before extending a recommendation.
Are slot counts enough to compare hosting plans?
No. Vanilla Valheim supports 10 players, while slots alone do not establish memory allocation, CPU access, backup retention or performance in your world.
How can I judge a host without a paid test?
Compare dated quotes and documented controls, then request answers for missing requirements. You can form a shortlist, but cannot claim observed latency, reliable recovery or mod performance without testing.
Can I host my own Valheim server?
Yes. A willing operator can run the dedicated-server process on suitable hardware. The official crossplay relay also works for self-hosters without router forwarding; renting mainly changes who supplies and maintains the infrastructure.
