Free 7 Days to Die Server Hosting: What Free Really Means
Compare free 7 Days to Die server hosting with co-op and home hosting, then check the credit, ad, uptime and platform limits before your group commits.
You will need
- Know whether the world must stay online when its usual host leaves
- Ask every player which game version and platform they use
If you search for free 7 Days to Die server hosting, start by deciding what “free” needs to include. A shared co-op session, a dedicated server on a PC you own and a hosted tier that runs on someone else’s hardware solve different problems. Each has a cost: time, electricity, ads, credits, session rules or a monthly bill.
The current stable release is V3.3.0, announced by The Fun Pimps on October 5, 2026. Use a provider that identifies the game version it runs, and ask how it handles updates before your group invests in a world. Old setup pages can describe settings that have since moved or changed.
If your priority is spending nothing each month, co-op or self-hosting may be enough. If your group wants a managed world that does not depend on a friend’s home PC, we recommend Game Hosting’s 7 Days to Die plans: its integrated control panel lets you choose Random, Navezgane or a pregenerated map, edit Sandbox options, schedule restarts and manage three backup slots with restore, download and locking controls. Those are documented features, not a promise that every free route is a poor fit.
A limited-time trial of a paid server is not the same as an always-free hosting tier. If you are comparing a trial before deciding, use our group test plan for a 7 Days to Die server trial and check what happens to the world when the timer ends.
What counts as free 7 Days to Die hosting?#
There are four common routes. Only two are hosted tiers. The first two use equipment and connections that you or a friend control.
| Route | Provider bill | What keeps the world available | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online co-op from the game | No separate server-hosting bill | The player who hosts the session | The host needs to be there for the group to play. |
| Dedicated server on a home PC | No hosting-provider bill | Your PC, game server and internet connection | You handle setup, updates, network access, power and troubleshooting. |
| Credit-based hosted tier | No monthly subscription, if credits cover play | Credit claims and the provider’s rules | You may need to earn or claim credits to keep the server running. |
| Ad-funded hosted tier | No monthly subscription on the offer reviewed | The provider’s app and its boost or ad flow | Instance resources and session rules may not be published clearly. |
Valve lists online co-op as a feature of 7 Days to Die. Co-op is the simplest answer for a small group that already plays together. It is not the same as renting an always-running dedicated server: the session belongs to its host. Our guide to playing 7 Days to Die as a couple covers that shared-session choice.
Self-hosting removes the provider charge, not the work. Someone supplies a PC, keeps the process and internet connection running, applies updates and makes the network reachable. That can be a sensible option if the owner enjoys maintaining a server. For the full trade-off, see host your own server or rent one.
What do free hosting credits actually buy?#
Credit systems turn play time into a balance you have to maintain. As checked on October 7, 2026, AxentHost’s public 7 Days to Die page lists 4–16 GB of selectable memory and says five credits run 1 GB for 1 hour. On that published rate, a 4 GB instance costs 20 credits per hour. The same page says a web claim earns 15 credits per hour, with up to 30 more per hour through its mobile apps and a daily spin.
That arithmetic matters: the web claim by itself falls 5 credits per hour short of the listed 4 GB rate. The provider advertises extra ways to earn credits, and says a server runs while its balance lasts. Treat this as a dated description of the provider’s own offer, not a guarantee that a server will stay online continuously or that 4 GB suits every map and group. A no-slot-limit claim also does not mean a game world can handle an unlimited number of active players.
Before choosing a credit tier, find out how much time your usual play schedule needs, whether your group will claim credits from a mobile app, and what happens when the balance reaches zero. If you do not want anyone to manage that balance, compare the recurring cost with the monthly price of a 7 Days to Die server.
What should you check on an ad-funded tier?#
The current Squadnox 7 Days to Die page says ads fund its service and that server management uses the Squadnox app. It shows a create → boost → play flow, says there is no artificial player-slot limit, and advertises hardware with up to 8 CPU cores and 16 GB RAM available. Those are the provider’s published claims, checked October 7, 2026.
The page does not state the RAM assigned to each 7 Days to Die instance, how long one boost lasts, whether idle servers sleep, or how a save is retained when a server stops. “Up to 16 GB available” describes a hardware ceiling; it does not say your individual world receives that amount. Ask those questions before inviting friends or building a long-term world. If the answer is not clear, assume the limit is unknown rather than filling it in from a different game’s page or an old review.
The same rule applies to queues, backups, download access, support and world restoration. A page may say “free” without explaining every condition that affects a group’s schedule. Check the offer’s current terms and keep a copy of any world you care about before you invest many hours in it.
Can free 7 Days to Die hosting stay online when you log off?#
That depends on which person or system is responsible for keeping the process running. A co-op host must be present for that session. A dedicated server on a home PC can run separately from the player’s game, but the owner still has to keep the computer, server process and connection available. A credit or ad-funded provider has its own conditions; read the current rules for credit balance, app use, idle behavior and world retention.
Do not treat an always-on marketing claim as proof that a free server will remain available under every condition. For a credit system, check what happens when credits run out. For an ad-funded offer, find out how boosts work and whether the server saves when it stops. For a home server, check what happens after a power or internet interruption. There is no single schedule that describes every free route.
Will a free PC server work for PS5 or Xbox?#
Do not assume a free PC server accepts console players just because the game supports cross-platform play. The official dedicated-server cross-platform requirements, updated April 21, 2026, require a maximum of 8 players, ServerAllowCrossplay=True, EACEnabled=True and IgnoreEOSSanctions=False. Other gameplay settings also have to stay within the official crossplay values.
The AxentHost and Squadnox pages checked for this guide do not confirm every control needed to meet those requirements. Ask a provider to verify its current server settings and supported platforms before your group pays with time or commits to a world. Our PC, PS5 and Xbox crossplay guide explains the current platform setup; it does not make an unverified free tier console-compatible.
How do you choose between free and paid hosting?#
Match the route to your group’s schedule and willingness to maintain it:
- Choose co-op when the same person can host whenever everyone plays and the session does not need to continue without them.
- Choose a home dedicated server when someone has a suitable PC, can manage updates and networking, and is comfortable with the electricity and upkeep.
- Choose a credit tier when the group is happy to claim credits and has confirmed that its normal play schedule fits the current credit rules.
- Choose an ad-funded app when everyone is comfortable using the app and the provider answers questions about the instance’s memory, session and save rules.
- Compare paid managed hosting when the world should live outside a friend’s home PC or your group wants a control panel and documented backup tools. Compare hosting providers and check what a server costs each month before you choose.
There is no universal winner. AxentHost’s credit math, Squadnox’s ad-funded app, co-op and self-hosting use different kinds of effort, and neither free-provider page reviewed here confirms full console crossplay support. A free option can be right if its conditions fit your group. A paid plan is for people who prefer a recurring bill to those conditions, not a requirement for playing the game together.
Frequently asked questions#
Can I host my own 7 Days to Die server for free?
You can run a server on a PC you own without paying a hosting provider. The computer, electricity, internet connection, setup and ongoing maintenance still have costs; this is self-hosting rather than free managed hosting.
Can free 7 Days to Die hosting stay online when I log off?
Sometimes, depending on the offer. Co-op depends on its host, a home server depends on the owner’s PC and connection, and hosted tiers have their own credit or app rules. Confirm idle behavior and world retention with the provider.
Can PS5 or Xbox join free 7 Days to Die hosting?
Only if the provider supports the current crossplay requirements and exposes the settings needed to meet them. The two free-provider pages checked for this guide do not establish that; ask for confirmation before choosing a server.
How much memory should a free 7 Days to Die server have?
Check the amount assigned to your specific server, not the largest amount a provider says its hardware can offer. Map, players and mods affect the resources a world needs, so monitor your own server as the group plays instead of treating one provider’s recommendation as a universal minimum.
Quick answers
Can I host my own 7 Days to Die server for free?
You can avoid a hosting-provider bill by using your own PC, but hardware, electricity, internet, setup and upkeep still cost time or money.
Can free 7 Days to Die hosting stay online when I log off?
It depends on the route: a co-op session follows its host, a home dedicated server needs its PC and connection running, and hosted free tiers have their own credit or app rules.
Can PS5 or Xbox join a free PC server?
Only if that provider can meet the current crossplay requirements and the server is configured for them; the free-provider pages checked here do not confirm every required control.
How much memory does a 7 Days to Die server need?
There is no one-size number for every map, group and mod setup. Check what memory a hosted service allocates to your instance, then watch the actual server as your world grows.
