You will need

  • Palworld installed on Xbox
  • Online console multiplayer access for each Xbox player
  • A world to host or an invite code from its host

Yes, you can play Palworld with friends on Xbox through a co-op world and a session invite code. The host chooses a world, turns on Multiplayer, and shares the code after loading in. Friends enter that code from the title screen. The short version: everyone joins one person’s game, so the host has to stay online and co-op tops out at four players total. Here’s the controller-friendly setup, what Xbox subscriptions actually cover, and when an always-on server fits better.

For the bigger picture, our guide to how Palworld multiplayer works compares co-op with dedicated servers. If you already know you want an Xbox-joinable server, see Xbox server hosting.

Check the game and online access on Xbox#

For an Xbox console, you need access to Palworld and a subscription that includes online console multiplayer. Xbox currently lists that feature with Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, so Ultimate is not a special requirement for co-op. Microsoft’s plan comparison separates console multiplayer from whether a particular game is in the subscription library.

Where you play What to check
Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S Palworld access, an Xbox profile, and a plan that includes online console multiplayer
Windows PC using the Microsoft Store / Xbox app Palworld access for PC and a working Microsoft/Xbox account; console multiplayer membership is not needed on PC
PC using Steam, Mac, or another supported platform Palworld access and a compatible current build; turn on Cross-Play for a mixed-platform co-op group

The Xbox Palworld listing identifies online co-op and Xbox cross-platform play. Game Pass libraries and included platforms can change, so check the listing attached to your own account if you’re relying on a subscription for the game itself. That is separate from the console’s online multiplayer benefit. A PC friend joining from Windows does not need the console plan just because you are on Xbox.

Before inviting the group, make sure each player can launch the game and reach its main menu. A friend still installing an update is not a co-op settings problem.

Turn on multiplayer before loading your world#

Set the world to multiplayer before you start the session. You can change an existing world’s options without making a second save, so check the selected world name before continuing.

  1. Select the world you intend to share

From the title screen, choose Start Game, then select your existing world. To begin a fresh shared save, create a new world instead. For an existing world, open Change World Settings before loading it.

  2. Enable Multiplayer

Turn Multiplayer on in the world settings, apply the change, and load the world. This is the co-op switch: a guest cannot turn your single-player save into a shared session from their side.

  3. Enable Cross-Play for a mixed-platform group

If friends are joining from Steam, Mac, or PlayStation 5, also turn on Cross-Play in the host’s world settings. Xbox and the Microsoft Store PC version are in the same Xbox platform family. Pocketpair’s crossplay update notice added play across supported platforms; it does not merge a player’s separate save files.

The change is ready when the world loads and Multiplayer remains enabled in its settings. If the group is all on Xbox, you can leave Cross-Play off; enable it when the group needs another supported platform. Do not create a duplicate world just to retry these options.

Share the code from the running session#

The host shares the invite code from inside the loaded world, not from the world-selection screen. Pause the game, open the session options, and copy or reveal the current Invite Code. Send it directly to the intended players rather than posting it in a public chat.

  1. Load in as the host

Wait until your character appears in the world. If the title screen still shows, the co-op session is not ready for friends to join.

  2. Open the in-world menu and reveal Invite Code

Use the controller to open the pause/menu screen, then choose the option that displays the world’s invite code. Copy it or read it to your friends. Button prompts can differ by controller layout, so follow the on-screen prompt instead of relying on an A/B button label from another player’s setup.

  3. Send the code for this session

Give friends the fresh code after the world has loaded. Palworld’s co-op code changes between sessions, so an old screenshot or message may no longer work when you host again.

Keep the session open while they join. When everyone can see the same world, ask one friend to confirm the expected base or location before you continue building.

Join your friend’s world with the invite code#

Guests join a co-op world from the invite-code option on the title screen. They do not search for the host in the dedicated-server browser.

  1. Return to the title screen

Choose Join Multiplayer Game (Invite Code). If you are already in another world, exit it first so you return to the main menu.

  2. Enter the host's current code

Type the code the host just shared and confirm. Check each character before submitting; a single mistyped character sends you back to the same problem.

  3. Confirm you landed in the right world

Once your character loads, check that you can see the host and the group’s expected location. If the code fails, ask the host to reveal it again from the active session.

Xbox and PC players can share co-op when the host’s world settings allow the platform pairing. You only need the dedicated-server route when the world needs to run separately from a player’s game or the group has outgrown co-op.

Know who can join and when the host must stay#

Standard co-op supports four players total, counting the host. When the host closes Palworld or leaves the co-op session, the shared world stops being available to the other players.

Co-op rule What it means for your group
4 players total The host takes one of the four places, leaving room for three guests
Host’s game stays open Friends cannot keep playing this world after the host leaves the session
Cross-Play is a world option Turn it on when friends use other supported platforms; it is not a save-transfer feature
Game versions matter Keep everyone’s copy updated and check official patch notices when a recent update changes multiplayer behavior

If you have four friends plus the host, the fifth person cannot join this co-op world. Changing Cross-Play does not increase its player limit. Likewise, Cross-Play does not let a guest take the host’s save and continue it alone. For the separate dedicated-server join rules for Xbox, read the Xbox server hosting guide.

Keep co-op or move to an always-online world#

Co-op is free of server setup and works well when everyone can play around the host’s schedule. If no Xbox player should have to keep the game open, we recommend Game Hosting’s Palworld server: its integrated panel includes Xbox join instructions and three free backup slots, so the group can use a separate world without assigning one friend to run the session.

Route Who keeps it running? Good fit when
Xbox co-op The Xbox host keeps Palworld open The group has four or fewer players and shares a schedule
PC friend’s co-op world The PC host keeps Palworld open The Xbox owner is not always available, but the PC friend can host
Dedicated server The server process stays online separately from the players’ game sessions Friends need to return on different schedules or co-op’s four-player cap is too small

Xbox consoles cannot run Palworld’s dedicated-server program. They can join a dedicated server through the Community server list when it is set up for console access; the Xbox server join instructions cover that path. Pocketpair’s dedicated-server default player limit is 32 and can be configured; that setting does not guarantee that every world will perform well at that size.

A dedicated server is a different world location, not an automatic transfer of your co-op save. Keep your current world intact until you have chosen and tested a migration route. If your only problem is that an invite code fails, solve that before changing hosts.

Check the simple causes when an invite code fails#

First ask whether the host has a loaded multiplayer world and has shared the code from that session. Then check the world options and each player’s update status before changing network settings.

What you see Check this first
The code is rejected immediately Ask the host to reveal the code again; it may be from a previous session or typed incorrectly
The world cannot be joined by a PC friend Confirm Multiplayer is on and Cross-Play is enabled for the mixed-platform group
A fifth player cannot get in Count the host; standard co-op has four places total
Friends are disconnected when you quit Expected co-op behavior; only a separately running server remains available after the player host exits
One player cannot launch online multiplayer Check that player’s Xbox online access and game update before changing the host’s world

If one player still cannot join after those checks, follow the broader Palworld multiplayer troubleshooting steps and compare what happens for another friend in the same session. Do not publish an invite code or server details in a public post while troubleshooting; replace the code by starting a fresh session if it has spread beyond your group.

For a group that plays together once in a while, keep the co-op world and its simple invite flow. If everyone wants the save available at different hours, decide who owns the always-online server and how the group will recover its files before moving there.

Before you invite your friends, check that the intended world loaded and that each player can connect. If those checks pass, you're ready for a session; if you'd rather not keep a PC on, that's what we're here for.
