You will need

  • Palworld installed on your Xbox or Xbox-family PC
  • A server name and password if you are joining a private world
  • A Windows or Linux PC if a friend will run the dedicated server
  • An Xbox subscription tier that includes online console multiplayer

The search “Palworld server hosting Xbox” usually means a dedicated world Xbox friends can join, not software running on the console. Xbox players can join a dedicated server, but the console cannot run it. The server process runs on a supported Windows or Linux machine; an Xbox can host a smaller co-op session from the game, where the host has to stay online. This guide helps you choose between a PC friend’s server and a rented one, turn on the right cross-play and Community-list settings, and check the subscription and update details before everyone tries to connect.

Can Xbox host a Palworld dedicated server?#

For a mixed-platform Palworld group that does not want one friend’s PC to be the host, we recommend Game Hosting. The integrated game panel keeps configuration and restarts together with three free backup slots; the game’s joining and version requirements still apply to every player.

Xbox can host an in-game co-op world, but not the dedicated-server process described in Pocketpair’s server documentation. The official server requirements list Windows 64-bit and Linux 64-bit systems as server operating systems. There is no Xbox server app or supported console setup in that guide. The Xbox game listing separates online co-op from dedicated servers and gives their different player ceilings.

World type What the Xbox player can do Who must keep the world running
Co-op from the game Host or join a session with 2–4 players total, including the host The player hosting the game must stay online
Dedicated server Join the persistent world, including from an Xbox console A Windows/Linux PC or hosting provider runs the server process

The Xbox Store lists a 32-player dedicated-server cap. That is a software limit, not a promise that any PC can run 32 active players smoothly. If you only play with a few friends at the same time and do not mind waiting for the host, co-op may be all you need. A dedicated server makes sense when your group wants to play while the Xbox owner is offline, or needs more than four players in the same world.

The wording matters when you search for Palworld server hosting Xbox: “Xbox server” usually means a server Xbox players can join, not a machine hosted by the console. A console can still be the co-op host, so do not pay for a dedicated server just because the word “server” appears in a friend’s message.

Choose between a PC friend and a rented host#

An Xbox player needs another machine to run a persistent dedicated world. One friend can run it on a Windows or Linux PC, or your group can rent server resources from a provider. A rental moves machine and network upkeep away from the group, but it is not the only way to keep a dedicated world online. The Palworld dedicated-server route guide compares self-hosting and renting in more detail.

Route Good fit when The trade-off
A friend’s PC Someone already has a suitable machine and is willing to manage it That PC must stay on, stay connected, and be updated; home-router access may need setup
A rented host Nobody wants to maintain an always-on PC at home It adds a recurring bill, and you should check current availability, platform support, billing and save access
Xbox co-op You have 2–4 players and the host is usually available It is not a separate always-on dedicated server; the host’s game session controls access

If you are happy to keep the PC on and handle updates, self-hosting can be enough. The Palworld server hosting guide lays out the routes. For a managed world, we recommend Game Hosting’s Palworld plans with an integrated panel and free backups. Enable the supported community-server route and test an Xbox join before moving your campaign.

Either dedicated-server route still needs the same Xbox-facing configuration. Do not assume that paying a provider makes an incorrect cross-play setting work; confirm that the server allows Xbox and appears in the Community list. If your group also includes PS5 players, check this PS5 server hosting buyer guide for the provider questions that sit alongside these Xbox checks.

Allow Xbox in cross-play and publish the Community server#

Xbox belongs in the server’s CrossplayPlatforms list, and the server needs to start as a Community server. Pocketpair’s current v1.0.4 configuration guide lists Steam, Xbox, PS5 and Mac as the default platform set. The Community server guide explains the launch mode needed for the in-game list.

For a self-hosted server, check these two settings:

ini
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)
powershell
PalServer.exe -publiclobby

The first setting allows Xbox to play alongside the other listed platforms. The launch argument publishes the server to the Community browser used by console players. Some control panels show checkboxes and a “Community” toggle instead of the raw values; use the panel’s current instructions and verify what it saved. Restart the server after changing settings that require a restart.

Avoid replacing the whole platform list with only Xbox unless you intentionally want to exclude Steam, PS5 and Mac. If your Xbox friend can see the listing but another platform suddenly cannot join, compare the saved list with your intended group before changing anything else. If the saved file looks right but the server ignores it, our free tool can check why your Palworld settings aren’t applying.

Join the server from an Xbox console#

Xbox joins a dedicated server through Palworld’s Community server list, not by entering the server’s IP address and port like a Steam or Mac player. Ask whoever runs the server for its exact public name and player password first. Then join from the game:

  1. Open the Community server browser

From the multiplayer area of the title screen, open the Community server list. Menu wording can shift between game updates, so look for the in-game server browser rather than a direct-connect field.

  2. Search for the server name

Enter the exact ServerName your friend configured. Narrow the search before scrolling; popular or similar names can make it easy to choose the wrong listing.

  3. Select the listing and enter its password

Choose the matching server and enter the player password if the game asks. The admin password is for server administration and should not be shared as the join password.

If the server never appears, ask the operator to check that -publiclobby is active, the world has finished starting, and the configured name matches what you searched. If it appears but rejects you, check the player password and the server’s Xbox cross-play setting. A successful join from a Steam PC only proves that the PC route works; it does not confirm that a Community listing is set up for your Xbox friend. The Xbox and PC cross-play guide covers the platform settings and join checks in more detail.

Keep Game Pass and server builds compatible#

Xbox, Microsoft Store PC and Steam updates can arrive on different schedules, but a different version number alone does not prove the server is incompatible. Pocketpair’s July 29 and July 30, 2026 PC patch notices specifically said those updates would not negatively affect cross-play with other platform versions. Those notices apply to those patches; they do not promise that every future build combination will work.

When an Xbox player stops joining after an update, check the server’s current build and the relevant Palworld patch announcements before trying version workarounds. Update the server and the players as each store makes a compatible build available, then test the Xbox Community-list route again. Do not assume that every platform’s displayed version string must always be identical, and do not roll back a working server based on an old forum post. For the store-side checklist, see how to check Game Pass and Steam update differences.

If a current patch explicitly says cross-play is not compatible yet, wait for the relevant platform update or server build instead of toggling unrelated network settings. For the full pairing chart, see our Palworld cross-play guide.

Check the Xbox subscription and size for your group#

Console online multiplayer may require an Xbox subscription tier that includes it. Microsoft’s current Xbox plans page lists Essential as including online console multiplayer, so do not tell friends that Ultimate is the only way to join a Palworld server. Subscription entitlements can change; check the plan description shown on the account before troubleshooting the game.

For a dedicated server, compare the number of players likely to be online together with the plan’s memory recommendation. Game Hosting’s published Palworld plans describe these player counts as recommendations, not guaranteed caps:

Plan Suggested group size How to read it
Squad, 8 GB 8 players Starting recommendation for a smaller group
Party, 12 GB 16 players More memory for a larger active group
Clan, 16 GB 32 players Recommendation aligned with the game’s dedicated-server cap

Base activity and what players build affect server load, so treat the player numbers as a starting point rather than a performance test. If the group is only a few Xbox and PC friends, check the plan details instead of buying for the full 32-player cap. Count concurrent players and choose with room for the world you actually run; our Palworld server requirements tool turns that count into a starting size.

Find the setting that matches the failure#

Check the part of the connection that failed before changing several settings at once. These symptoms point to different steps:

What the Xbox player sees First check
No matching listing Confirm -publiclobby, server startup state and the exact ServerName
Listing appears, but join is refused Confirm Xbox remains in CrossplayPlatforms, then recheck the player password
PC friends join, but Xbox cannot find it Confirm the server is a Community server; a direct-IP test does not test Xbox discovery
It stopped working after a patch Check the current server build and Pocketpair’s platform-specific patch notes
The server joins on one Xbox account but not another Check that account’s online multiplayer entitlement before changing server settings

Save the current config before editing it, change one relevant value, restart if the setting requires it, and test again from the Xbox. If the server is self-hosted and the Community listing still will not appear, follow the dedicated setup steps in the Palworld cross-play walkthrough. If no one wants to keep a PC running at home, check the server-hosting guide before deciding whether a rental fits your group.

Before you invite your friends, check that the intended world loaded and that each player can connect. If those checks pass, you're ready for a session; if you'd rather not keep a PC on, that's what we're here for.

Quick answers

Can you host a Palworld server on Xbox?

You can host a co-op session from the game, but an Xbox cannot run the dedicated-server software. For a persistent dedicated world, run it on a supported Windows or Linux PC or use a host.

Can Xbox players join a Palworld dedicated server?

Yes. The server must allow Xbox in CrossplayPlatforms and run as a Community server with -publiclobby so Xbox players can find it in the in-game list.

Do you need Game Pass Ultimate to join a Palworld server on Xbox?

Ultimate is not uniquely required for online multiplayer. Use an Xbox subscription tier that currently includes online console multiplayer; Microsoft lists Essential among those tiers.

Can Xbox join a Steam server in Palworld?

Yes. Current server settings include Xbox and Steam for cross-play by default, but Xbox joins through the Community server list rather than the Steam direct-IP route.
